Dude, seriously read up on the 3-4 then go look at teams that lead the league in run defense.
I will take the brunt of the criticism for this since I brought the point up.
I'm just concerned with our defensive tackle depth. Woods, Poona and Mone...who else we have?

My concern about stopping the run was more about defensive tackle personnel than scheme.

Also Wagner was amazing at sneakily shedding blocks and making tackles in the backfield on those kind of runs. I like Brooks but Barton seems like the kind of guy that will get a lot of tackles 5-7 yards down field, not in the backfield.

At this point, we have on DL:

Poona 310 lbs
Woods 330 lbs
Mone 345 lbs
Collier 291 lbs
Shelby Harris 288 lbs
Jefferson 291 lbs
Jarrod Hewitt 290 lbs

I suspect Poona will play end when lined up in 3-4, Woods and Mone clearly the NT under 3-4.

I forgot about Harris and Jefferson. I'm a dork!
Well then I'm sure they'll be fine

This does not really look like a great roster for 3-4 defense focused on stopping the pass. Which is the big advantage of the 3-4, better ability to focus on the pass.

So I need to see it working with this set of players, because we don't look we have the right roster for it.

Where is the weakness?

They've got several big linemen than can effectively man multiple techniques, they've got a stable of outside rushers that have the flexibility to drop or rush allowing disguised coverages...

I mean, I guess if there's a starter I'm worried about, it'd be Barton. Otherwise, I think the roster looks pretty attuned with what they're hinting at schematically

It will be great to see if you are right. Would love to see a better defense.

lol, I wasn't sure either, so I had to look up their roster. Under 3-4, I suspect Woods and Mone will be full time NT with Poona as, well backup? Under 4-3, Woods and Mone will be 1 tech, Poona would be 1 tech or 3 tech? DEs would be Collier, Shelby Harris, Jefferson, and Jarrod Hewitt if he makes the cut.

I loved Bobby as much as the next guy. Maybe more, so it feels real icky to type this. But the description you gave of Barton "a guy that will get a lot of tackles 5-7 yards down the field" was exactly what Bobby was giving us towards the end of last season. From a football intelligence and pure physical gifts standpoint this is a downgrade, but I think in terms of production it'll be close to a wash.

And as far as DT is concerned; Woods, Poona, and Mone is a great 3-deep at a position you only need one of on the field at a given time.

This front should be dynamic as hell. I'm stoked.
