I believe the NFL makes more money for themselves in pink merchandise sales... than it actually raises in breast cancer research. Which is why the league emphasizes it for a month long.

As BI pointed out, if NFL products are sold at a 100% markup and only 5% of sale proceeds go to the American Cancer Society, then the NFL is pocketing 90% of sales of Breast Cancer Awareness products, many of which would not be purchased if they didn't come with a promise that consumers were "helping." The American Cancer Society...don't use 100% of the money they receive to "fight" breast cancer. Only 70% of donations taken in by the organization go toward cancer research. So, if you spend $10 on pink stink from the NFL, only about 35 cents is going to finding a cure for breast cancer. And $4.50 goes right back to the NFL

The whole thing has become overdone. Every product on the shelf is pink and most of that money goes into Susan B. Komen's pockets at the end of the day anyhow.

They have moved the money away from the Komen foundation. It actually goes to the American Cancer Society now. This was announced several times through the past several weeks. Komen was shown to be taking a bit too much (like almost all of it) to pay their board members. Pennies on the dollar were going to anything cancer related, and most was going to "awareness" according to them, but really was going to employee salaries. I worked at a non-profit for long enough to know how most work. One person makes all of the money and we all work for peanuts and are told that we're doing good work and are supposed to pay our bills with the happy feeling in our heart.
