Per Pete via Seahawks beat writers

Bryan Walters is out with a rib injury.

Kam, Lynch, Okung, Toomer all expected to play. Malcolm Smith possible.

Irvin out for a week or two.

Hoping to have Bobby Wagner and Kevin Norwood next week.

Horace Miller has a knee sprain.

lotta writers and fans picking Walters to make the team but that injury is gonna make it tough on the guy. Both in terms of how he'd hold up through a season and in how much he can show before cut-downs at a highly competitive spot.

Pete's presser with that same basic info can be watched here:

The Hawks need to see Richardson returning punts in weeks 3 and 4 anyway, so hopefully this won't matter too much.

The knee surgery might be a blessing for Brooks. He's not looked all that great in the first two preseason games, and now the odds of him being picked up by another team drop quite a bit. He still has PS eligibility.

So the cards are now being shuffled to the roster, remember this could be the start of strategically placing guys on different lists.

Carroll has mentioned that Norwood could return by the start of the season, but would he really keep someone who hasn't played a snap in the preseason on the team roster? But if not, why is he saying that he could return if he's just going on the IR list like many here expect?

Yes, he could do that. It's premature to say Norwood is going on IR. Pete does what he wants.

Without checking with us here at .Net ? Are you sure ?

Norwood was having a great camp. He was faster than they expected, has the largest catch radius on the team, and was catching literally everything thrown at him. All this on a bum foot. Yes, he's making the roster, and it doesn't sound like he's going on IR.

Short memory. He did it last season.

Richardson isn't returning punts. Kickoffs perhaps.

I really don't understand why Richardson is even in the conversation to return kickoffs when you have the best return man in the game on the team already.

You named a lot of people. Go over the entire roster. You may actually come up with it. Hint, he had a kickoff return for a TD in the Super Bowl and his initials are ...........................

Percy Harvin.

I actually listed the 53-man roster for the Seahawks on opening day. And although you're right that Harvin technically fits the criteria I set out, I think there's an obvious difference between a marquee free agent and 4-year veteran getting more than 25 million guaranteed and a 4th-round rookie with no prior NFL experience, don't you?

In any case, like I said, Harvin didn't make the 53-man roster. He was put on the PUP list, which seems a better fit for Norwood as well.

Norwood would not clear wavers to be able to be put on IR. Players with less than four years must clear wavers before they can be put on IR. I think that's why he stays on the active roster.

Just like the difference between a 5'11" 3rd round QB vs the most desirable free agent QB outside Peyton of that year that was paid semi big $$$? Always compete. If Pete thinks he has something to offer, I am sure he will do however he sees fit.

IR designated to return; that one special designation, does the player have to clear waivers?
