Offense #5 scoring, probably #7 in yardage. Pass happy teams like NO and Detroit will probably score more, but I see us being the top scoring team in the league in the 1st half of games, then we run the ball to finish teams off.
Defense #1 in scoring. We did it last year, and we have guys like Wagner, Chancellor, Smith/Morgan, Irvin, heck even Sherman that are young and will probably improve or at least produce better and more consistently. Add to that Winfield, which I think is a HUGE addition to the nickle CB spot. I think coverage will be good enough that it will allow pass rush to catch up to the QB. I think the additions to our DL will make our pass rush better anyways, so I honestly don't see teams tearing us up through the air. Teams will have to run the ball on us to set up the pass, and that typically doesn't lend to a high scoring offense.
I'm going to go with 4th for yardage on defense. I speculate team will have to throw on us a lot to try to catch up, and that usually racks up the yardage on a defense. Conversely, if our offense takes over games, and runs the ball with dominance in the 2nd half, we will have a well rested defense that isn't on the field a lot, so yardage won't suffer too badly.
The Homer in me wants to agree with Kearly on points differential. I think we're going to crush some of the bad teams, but Petey is a good sport so we'll run the ball a lot to close out games, thus keeping the overall score down. Look to the additions at RB to see what the plan is. Our Defense is talented and proud; I don't think they will want anyone to score on them, and they will want to keep ahaed of the Niner's defensive ranking.
