Interesting thing about Lynch and Peterson: they've been linked together as #1 and #2 for most of their football lives.

Peterson was the #1 RB recruit coming out of high school in 2004. Marshawn was #2.

Peterson was the #1 RB drafted in the 2007 NFL Draft. Marshawn was #2.

And here they are, still standing a decade later, as probably the consensus Top 2 RBs of this current era.

Peterson has the yards and records. Marshawn has the ring.

Any true competitor wouldn't say that he or she is #2. If AP wasn't an elite player in this league and saying all this, then it would be a different story.

Peterson is in the HoF for sure. Lynch is still TBD. So I don't mind him thinking that he's #1 and Lynch is #2. Most non-biased observers would agree.

I interpreted these comments by AP as a sign of respect.

Absolutely, I don't see anything wrong or untrue about what he said. And I'm sure Marshawn feels the same way about himself. Maybe this adds a little extra fuel to the fire.
