Only is the price is right will it be Haush. I think $3m is too much for a kicker. If he'll take $1, 1.5-ish like Ryan I bet they'd keep him, but for more than that I'd just rather roll over the cap space to make room for the big boys. Haush has been <$1m up until now and that's by design me thinks. I don't see kickers being a big dollar priority for this FO.

......that said, I just looked at available FA kickers, and the list ain't pretty. It's like no country for old men. So unless there's a phenom in the rough coming out of college the FO has it's eye on, maybe they DO pay Haush.

Wrongo buddy! He's worth every bit of 3 million per which is about tag money. I would love to see him signed for 5 years/15 million. Next year, and the years after, 3 million per for that kind of kicker will be a BARGAIN!

EDIT:

Some rankings fro PFF and *gasp* walterfootball (no relation to johnny football)

#2. Steven Hauschuka

2013 Grade: +40.2

When Hauschuka entered the league in 2008, he was used as a kickoff specialist, while his ability on kickoffs have never been in doubt. The last 2 seasons Hauschuka with the help of the excellent Seahawks special teams unit, he has allowed an average drive start below 21 yards each year.

When Hauschuka became the only kicker on the Baltimore Ravens in 2009, he struggled on field goals. In the 11 games before he got cut he had a 69.2% on FGs, however he managed to turn around his weakness to the third highest FG % in the league last season. Outside of 2013 Hauschuak, has struggled on 50+ FGs, only connecting on 40%. When he is inside of 40 yards though, Hauschuka is almost automatic, he has only missed 4 on his 65 attempts between 0-39 yards.

#1. Steven Hauschka, K, Seahawks. Age: 29.
Steven Hauschka went 33-of-35 in 2013. He was just 4-of-10 from 50-plus prior to this past season, but he was a perfect 3-of-3 from that distance last year.

Or does his lack of accuracy beyond 50 yards make him more expendable than Dawson?

He was 3/3 from beyond 50 last year.

Good point. But he only attempted three for a reason. Dawson had twice as many attempts of 50+ yards. That classic moment in the NFC Championship Game was made possible in part because Haushka told Carroll he was not comfortable attempting the 53 yarder.

For his career, Hauschka has only made about half of his attempts from that distance.

He was up against a swirling headwind and felt that making it was 50/50 given those circumstances. He made a wise decision and it ultimately helped the team win. And yes, his leg strength is much improved. Remember the SB kick-off that hit the crossbars? Yeah I know he had a running start but that is 75 yards downfield.

Dude, you talking about a kicker. $3m... Per YEAR...? To kick the ball and nothing else? Dude, it's a kicker. There's a bunch of guys hanging out in front of Home Depot that can kick a ball for a helluva lot less than $3m bucks a year. Heck, there's probably a Gramatica kicking around somewhere we could use.

SMH... If we need to consistently rely on a kicker to win games we have problems...

I still miss Olindo Mare!

Neither Steven Haushka or Josh Brown were worth what they command(ed).

I think we can find some guys cheap in free agency and in the draft that can compete hard for the spot. Nobody can afford to pay a kicker so much.

Ask the Patriots super bowl teams how they feel about having a kicker win them games

Well shit...I guess you're right. So, I guess the real question is, are you available to kick field goals and extra points this year? I mean, I'd do it, but I have a job. And a life. And well, I was thinking, who has neither? :229031_flagca:

Even more than I was for Tate I'd be upset if we got rid of Haushmoney. Common it can't cost that much to keep him and he's fantastic in every measurable quality. I feel like we'll keep him.. surely Pete understands how important special teams is.

Agreed. We've just finally got an elite kicker...why the hell would we lose that.

He probably wants 3 million per season. Thats a lot for a guy who is only money within 45.

Why we did not tag him is beyond me. An elite kicker is the difference between winning and losing when the going gets rough, so to me he is a priority.

Jesus, I've seen this movie so many times already.

Tell me if this rings a bell; "OMG! What are we going to do without Josh Brown!? ....oh, Olindo Mare's pretty good" or "OMG! What are we going to do without Olindo Mare!? ...oh, Steven Hauschka is pretty good" so now it's "OMG! What are we going to do without Steven Hauschka" and I have every expectation to believe that ________ will probably be pretty good.

But, y'know... Freak out about a friggen KICKER if it makes you feel better......

You better have a good one lined up somewhere if you cut him, we have went thru the trials of not having a good one at times. People forget those times. We as a franchise have been fortunate with kickers.

Todd Peterson, 81.8 % 1995 1999
Norm Johnson 69.7 % 1982 1990

Dude, there's a bunch of guys hanging out in front of the local grade school that can kick a ball for a helluva less than $3m bucks a year. Do they really let guys hang out in BUNCHES in front of Home Depot ??

There are guys on the roster making $3m bucks a year who are less important to the outcome of a game than our
kicker. It looks like an easy way to make a living, but the expectation of perfection and the pressure make me think
that it's not. Pay the man.

Kickers aren't real football players. Any dope soccer player can kick field goals... Go pillage the MLS for a kicker. Those guys only make like $50k/yr, they'd jump at a $250k nfl contract.

So the bunch of guys at Home depot are not going to get it ?? Now we need Major League Soccer kickers.
I have to point out that they're not football players either, at least the kind we're discussing.
We're getting closer though.
