Not a surprise. 12m is too high.

I'd like to see Vi Jones get a lot of work in the preseason. I'm hoping he was able to add a few good pounds. He had some great moments last preseason. He was just a bit light.

For a brief while he was a tackling machine, but that didn't last long. Brooks isn't bad, but he is coming off both injury and his rookie deal. Further, linebackers aren't the most difficult commodity to come by. I think they will draft a few next year.

This is not surprising at all, his contract might even toll not playing this season considering how late he hurt his ACL. He certainly could be kept with a tag if he comes back so we’ll see.

Half that price? Like who? 6.5mill-7mill?
OTC Linebacker Contracts

There are only 7 ILBs in the NFL making more than Brooks option.

There are only 12 ILBs in the NFL making over $7M/yr.

LB, like C and S, is not a highly paid position in the NFL unless the player is considered elite. Brooks' play has not been elite.

Brooks is nowhere near top 7, and comparable play can be found in the $7M range.

Empty calorie tackles. There were games I forgot he was on the team then somehow looked at the box score and he had 15-20 tackles, not a single one which I remembered.

While true the flipside is that Brooks hustles and flows to the ball. But he isn't going to be a guy that makes game changing plays. Solid above average NFL starter is what he has shown so far.

Damn, tough crowd. When did Brooks all the sudden become a crappy LB? Not worth what that option would have paid, but he's still pretty damn solid.
I don't see anyone calling him crappy.

He is, as others have said, a "solid", "above average" linebacker.

He is not elite. He should not be paid as if he is elite.

Seahawks overpay much too often. See Adams, Diggs, and Dissly for example.

Solid isn't worthy of guaranteeing your now ACL injured LB almost 13M, fully guaranteed against the cap.

IMO even if Brooks was healthy it was 50/50 on picking up his 5th year option. He struggled last year at times with taking over for Bobby at the strong inside backer spot.

Maybe he'd be better back outside now that Bobby's back? But no reason to pick up that much of a cap hit when you can see how the injury affects his play. Remember, Brooks got hurt in January. That's well into the season for most full ACL tears.

Brooks was not a bust but I'm sorry I wasn't impressed by his
play at all without BWags..
Your time to shine and you just didn't take it up another level.
When a Cody Barton was playing harder and at times better
YIKES!
I'd be moving on after this season TBH he isn't taking a big enough
pay cut.

btw, this is the norm leaguewide. The fully guaranteed 5th year option for 1st rounders is just too steep. I think something like 80% of 5th year options have not been exercised since it's inception.

No. 2: Chase Young
No. 8: Isaiah Simmons
No. 9: C.J. Henderson
No. 11: Mekhi Becton
No. 14: Javon Kinlaw
No. 18: Austin Jackson
No. 20: K'Lavon Chaisson
No. 21: Jalen Reagor
No. 23: Kenneth Murray
No. 24: Cesar Ruiz

Just goes to show you what a crap shoot the draft is, even with a top pick.

So what's the point of teams trading back into the end of the 1st? 😂

2023 rookie payscale over their first 4 years:

No. 1 pick: 41.2M
No. 10 pick: 22.6M
No. 20 pick: 15.4M
No 30 pick: 13.05M

So yeah, depending on how far you drop back, it can be quite a bit of cap saved.
