Oh great hopefully the Aints defense (the worst in the league this year) was because of other coaches and he was the only good coach an a terrible terrible defense coaching group.

Aints? C'mon dude. Those days are long gone and I'm sure you know it.

I watched a few saints game this year, there pass rush is not a strength on that team.

:13:

Yeah, our front 4 was just atrocious this year with the exception of Cam Jordan and rotational players Junior Galette and Akiem Hicks. Will Smith just couldn't get any pressure off his side the line while Bunkley and Sedrick Ellis couldn't plug the A and B gaps.

Might help bring DT Sedrick Ellis (former Trojan) to Seattle.

I'll help him pack his bags...

So what's your opinion on why he started off well in his first three seasons, then tapered off?

Nope, but he was a scrub. And they hired him.
Awesome, you named one bad personnel move this team has made in 3 years! Which literally has NOTHING to do with the coaching staff Carroll has put together. Kudos :th2thumbs:

Yeah, I'm sure this front office would hire a scrub.

LOL! :)

I love our front office but not even I believe that they are infallible.

Not so sure about this :|

But the Saints haven't really had many sacks for years, long before Jones showed up.

Also of note:
In 2005, when he joined the Dolphins as Asst. DL coach, they had the 2nd-most sacks per game, up from 21st-most the previous year. In 2006, when he was DB coach, they had 3rd most sacks. In 2007, when he was DE coach, they had 24th most sacks. Of course, this is ignoring many other factors (it appears they lost 2 of their top pass rushers in 2007).

I still have quite a bit of trust in the front office to make the right decision.

We should fire Pete and John both for letting this happen. How dare they hire someone before asking who the .net wannabes think they should hire! :sarcasm_off:
I am not saying love everything they do! But I am saying, just because YOU do not see the reasoning does not make it a bad move. It was not that long ago the Flynn lovers were saying Pete had no clue what he was doing. :stirthepot:
As for myself I choose to believe in the body of work they have shown. :th2thumbs:
It does not have to be proven to me before I believe!!!

See the Sig below if you disagree!!!! :0190l:

Does it really matter when we already have a D-Line specialist like Quinn overseeing the defense? Quinn obviously had a say in this since the two guys have previously worked together on coaching a very successful Miami line. He knows what Jones brings to the table in terms of teaching fundamentals. Got to trust his opinion for now, but either way, it doesn't strike me as something one should get either nervous or overly optimistic about at this point.

Alas, this thread isn't about Whitehurst. It's about the new defensive line coach, and the point is they have made good hires in coaching on the "D". Hence, they wouldn't hire a scrub.

It's just funny when people knock a move like this. I'm pretty sure they know what they wanted to do.

P.S. We don't "hire" players....we trade/sign/draft. 8)

Signing a player is hiring the player, fyi

Would be interesting to see if Jones and Quinn can have Irvin start looking like Jason Taylor. I think they were all three working in Miami at the same time. Wikipedia says JT had 139.5 sacks in his career. ... get them to spend some time together this off season.

If Jones and Quinn can somehow help Irvin make a development jump similar to Aldon Smith's jump from last season to this season it would be awesome!

Oh man, if you'd only used the word "terrible" just one more time, I'd maybe bought in.
Saints were being penalized by the NFL for their locker room reward system to bunging up the competition.
Many players and Coaches were fined for partaking, and by the way, wasn't the HC Peyton suspended for last Season?

Not worried at all. Quinn will still be in control of this D line.

Well, with a top notch d line guy like Quinn acting as DC, I suppose it's not a terrible idea to bring in a young guy to apprentice under him (cuz if we keep this up, it's only a matter of time before before Quinn starts getting interviewed for his own HC job).

Colour me cautiously optimistic over this hire.
Didn't he work with Spaghetti-Os on that abomination of a defense last year?

His name isn't Spaghetti-O's, it's Mark aka Rockhawk.

DL recruiting coordinator at LSU from 03-04? I wonder if he'll push to bring Glenn Dorsey in. :th2thumbs:
