Saints continue to release their best performers of years past ... Running back Sproles is the next and he has already tweeted a goodbye note.

Good for them. They need to get right. Their offense wasn't nearly as dynamic as years past and they had a lot of older/aging players taking up a lot of cap space. Only so many years left for Brees gotta try to reload while they can.

Not a good thing for Saints. Sproles was still very productive. He will be hard to replace. Lot of vets getting axed by the Saints, next year looks to be a rebuild year for them.

Not a bad idea, They could add a few WR's and RB's from this stacked draft for the price of just Sproles.

Sproles was somewhat affective but not when it mattered. His days of being a game changer are probably over.

Never a rebuild when you have a QB. Just a reload. Tight up against the cap they had to try to get some fresh talent in there.

Brees and graham complain about getting paid. Get paid insane amounts, complain about not having team. Interesting. . .

Sproles mimics a lot of what Percy gives you, but he could be an interesting option for our FO if Tate bolts, leaving a big hole at PR. We do have a logjam at RB, but I could see him being a potential target.

Nice to see they have a set and are going to try and rebuild on the fly because of this draft. They have a good shot at really shocking people because of this. Besides outside of AP and Marshawn running backs can be found everywhere.

In today's NFL you're stupid if you draft a running back before the 2nd round unless it's Adrian Peterson and even that's starting to get debatable. And if Marshawn is a Seahawk in 2015 both John and Pete better be fired. Believe that.

Was coming here to say this exact thing. The NFL article on the Sproles release says its in part due to Jimmay's new contract saga.

Darren Sproles has gotten paid already. He made good money in San Diego and in New Orleans.
Given his small frame and the beating he has taken over the years, Sproles should retire and enjoy life with his family ...
Would be foolish to take a chance on a 31 year old running back.

5 million dollars for a 30 year old, change-of-pace running back? Ditching that contract is a smart move for the Saints.

The Saints' offensive system made Darren Sproles work MUCH more than Darren Sproles made the Saints offensive system work, IMO. He's ultimately old, oft-injured, overpaid and replaceable.

Meh. Sproles was effective sure, but Lance Moore is just an average WR at best playing in a pass-happy scheme. The Saints aren't losing much here. Khiry Robinson is a good young back and if they add a good WR in the draft and some pieces on defense, they will remain very tough .. especially at home.

Robinson was a good back when you didnt see him coming. The unloading theyve done this offseason will br interesting how competitive they are next year. They have major wholes that need to be filled.

Sounds like Sproles found out he is being traded...via Twitter. Top notch front office there in New Orleans.
