I’m honestly asking...

How is his game different than Nick Vannett’s? Wasn’t Vannett more known as a blocking TE out of OSU? It will be interesting to see the offensive role our TE’s play this year with the change in personnel.
No. They thought that Vannett had blocking potential, but he was mostly used as a pass catcher. His blocking was very bi-polar at OSU. I done seent it myself.

We need more run blocking and that is for sure and this guy seems to fit that bill. If he can catch a few balls, well that is a bonus.

Will Dissly is a nice pickup here.

Panned by Bleacher. In fact Bleacher claims another reach by Seattle. According to Bleacher the entire Seattle draft so far has been a reach. I hope we prove them and all the "experts" wrong.

BTW, they did note that all our picks so far are west coast men.
Since when has "bleacher report" been considered experts? [emoji3]

So with Dissly being a hair faster and just as agile as Zach Miller coming out of ASU, why was he such a great pass catcher? Why wasn't he in Seattle playing with the great RW? Could it be emphasis? Could it be that SEA liked to run that ball? Does UW like to give the rock to Gaskin a lot as well as Coleman? Hell, they have Gaskin play in the wildcat sometimes.

You can't look up his highlights, but I've seen him play and he's actually pretty crafty and athletic as a pass catcher. Chill out....

Seems to me the Will Dissily selection closes the door on shuttling specialists on to and off the field. What draft sites are saying is of no importance. What is important is what these draft picks telegraph to fans about changes to the 2018 team.

Opposing defensive coordinators will have to make due with a lot less telegraphing by this new offense. Will Dissily has demonstrated a willingness play where needed. The beauty of Zack Miller was his enthusiasm for lining up at multiple spots ...... i.e. ...... lining up tight with the tackle, spread outside, in the slot or deployed at the full back spot.

Love this pick as confirmation that they will return to what they know works! :2thumbs:

"Best blocking TE in the draft" according to Mayock - whose opinion I would take over the Kipers of this world.

What he said on TV was that he was the #1 blocking TE in the draft and there isn't a #2.

The best blocking TE in the draft. Pete is determined to fix the running game and if this dude can help do that it makes sense.

Go back and look at the number Zach Miller put up at ASU and Oakland before he got to Seattle. They are not the same type of player.

Pressing Badly

Dissly has had ONE season in college at TE and 0 in the NFL so that point is completely moot.

We have hardly used a TE to block anything in years here with an effectiveness since Miller left, our previous TE's played whiff a block and we could not seal a sandwich bag with them let alone the edge of a run play for our RB's. That is now fixed, Vannett, Swoopes and Dissly all have shown they can block and do it willingly, different levels of success and ability but willing, something the Previous TE's we had didn't have, WILLing. He will get passes thrown and may have a few drops but that's not as bad as short arming or lack of efforts and not having completions in my book.

I don't know enough about draft value and player evaluation to have an opinion on what pick we used to draft him, but I liked what I saw from Dissly his senior year.

Remember, Dissly is still learning the TE position. He switched to TE his junior year, did okay, and then improved greatly his senior year. And let's face it, UW sucked at passing last year, so I'm not sure how well we can rate his ability as receiver. Seems to have soft hands, though.

Also, it's not like Zach Miller was running fancy routes when he played TE for us. We need a guy who can run block so that we can establish a running game. Then we can run plays where the TE initaties a block on a play action pass and then sheds and gets free. Dissly can do that. Hopefully.

I had to marinate on this pick for a little bit because I felt like it was a full 2 rds too early for him.

I get that he is the best "Y" guy specifically for what they are looking to do at the position in the run game, but here is the thing. These guys are not valued around the league, and can be had in the 6-7-UDFA. It's almost like drafting a FB in the 4th.

If Dissly is starting, your WRs have to be that much better because you can cover Dissly fine with a LB just fine in coverage.

You need a TE who can threaten vertically in the Air Coryell.

A niche player, that will telegraph what they are doing when he is in the game.

So yeah, after thinking about it for a while I still don't like this selection in the 4th, you don't draft niche in the 4th. He is going to have to be a lot more than what he was at UW for this pick to make sense.

I usually agree with most everything you post, Fade, but not this one. Tight ends for the most part average under 10 yards per catch. Gates and Ertz averaged around 10 last year. We need him to block well and catch important, short 1st downs. Play calling is usually what gets these guys open, not burner speed or incredible athletes. Love your posts though. Just a different thought.

I'm surprised that anyone compared to Zach Miller would be mistaken for a niche player. Especially on the heels of the departure of niche specialists from last year's group.

It's back to the future in 2018 with a reset to an offense that has proven to work.

Many of you did not like Graham because he was not a good blocking TE so we let him go and pick the best in the draft at exactly that, and now you want an athletic pass catching type instead..??

Nobody is saying they don't want a blocking TE were just saying you can find one in the 7th round or udfa or go sign Brent Celek to a league minimum deal.

I've learned one thing from reading this board the last couple of days.

There is always better players available than what the Seahawks picked..... several rounds later. Its amazing, like every single pick.

"Why'd we pick a TE here? There will be better or just as good 3 rounds from now!"

He doesn't run routes like Miller who was an amazing route runner, smaller hands than Miller, 6 inches less on the vertical.

Blocking at the point of attack, and speed wise they are similar. He has to be more than what he was at UW though if he wants to be Zach Miller.

Johnny Manziel is the Next Russell Wilson. Baker Mayfield is the next Russell Wilson.

Every TE that can block is now the next Zach Miller as well I guess.

Yes indeed, Miller came out of college a little more explosive and further along as a receiver. But, I don't see Dissly as a niche player or specialist. His will and ability to be very versatile and line up in multiple pre-snap positions is going to pay big dividends going forward IMO.

Dissly has only player TE for 2 years, he has so much room to grow not only as a blocker, which is pretty great to hear, but also as a receiver.

Yes, he isn't a world beater as a receiving threat right now, but he sure ins't a liability either. Guy has soft hands and is tough as all get out to bring down once the ball is in his hands. Check his stats from the last 3 games of the Huskies season. Guy was great.
