If PCJS had any intention of drafting a QB with a legitimate shot to be the QBOTF, they would have done so in the 2023 draft. I was really hopeful, and somewhat convinced, they would select one of my three choices. #1 Stroud, #2 Richardson, or #3 Levis. All three appear to have great potential as their skills are transferring to solid play in the NFL.
They could have easily moved up to get #1 or #2, and #3 was there with the 20 pick or even trading down to 32.
I am now convinced they will never draft a suitable QB. Instead, I think we'll see something along the lines of:
2024 Geno
2025 Lock
2026 Lock
2027 Fields/Jones/Love/etc
2028 Fields/Jones/Love/etc
2029 Fields/Jones/Love/etc
Yes, my worst nightmare is that the team is not sold and PCJS "run it back for one more year!" until PC is 85.
I just hope I live long enough to see the next iteration of the Seahawks.
This is my fear too. If they had an intention in drafting a QB, the most logical time was the 2023 draft. The timing and draft capital was there. I really wanted Richardson or Levis as I didn't think they had any shot at Stroud or Young, but the fact is they had no shot at Richardson either. They had two shots at drafting Levis and decided against it. On top of that, they now gave away next years 2nd rounder for a 10 game rental player, so it does not seem like they are stocking up in order to move up for a QB or being ready to pull the trigger if an opportunity rises.
The QBs we have at roster are OK bridge players, but as someone pointed out, that bridge leads nowhere.
As for 2024, they have no shot at Maye or Williams. Later there are at least Penix, Nix, Daniels, Ward, Rattler and Travis, if they all declare. But I don't see them pulling the trigger on any of those either. We are stuck with this, and it will not be enough even if they manage to build a full roster of competent players around it.
The Leonard Williams trade has got me give up with the hope of getting a cheap quality QB to develop, possibly even start. After last year, I was doubtful of that already but now it seems too unlikely.
There have been good points here about how the 1st round QB has not made the difference for a lot of teams. But every successful team has a special player at that position and it´s hard to get above mediocrity without it. Avoiding picking a guy seems like a scared strategy. Any pick can go wrong, not just QB picks, but somehow that seems to be what they are afraid of.
Maybe we get another journeyman. Meh.
