That video doesn't show someone who's soft.

Starting to think that anyone who regards Jimmy Graham as soft, only watched him in two Seahawks games. He's vaguely Lynchesque in taking on contact and breaking bad tackles.

He is not soft at all, he's much like Gronk always getting the extra yards. The only reason why he's considered soft is because he had a sideline incident with our defense and of course they are going to smack talk about him. How many times Sherman smack talk about other good WR in other teams that we would love to have.

The center touches the ball on every offensive snap. You can minimize that impact all you want, but you are incorrect.

nope, you overvalue the center position, which is comical

much rather have jimmy

bai troll

Never said I wasn't happy with the trade. You are still wrong.

Seems like a pretty good trade to me.
Your entire offense is better because of Graham, and RW on the corner go up and get it floater to this guy will be lethal in the red zone. This is the move a team makes when the window is wide open and it's get more trophies mode.
If you hit on an mid round center and Cable is able to couch him up like Britt, then this transaction is gold.

Good points regarding RW's floater passes over the top. RW finally has a guy he can throw the ball up to while having faith that Graham will pull it down. It's like having a top notch point guard passing to a dominating power forward (Stockton/Malone). Hopefully we can get a center and guard in the draft that is as NFL ready as Britt was last year.

Hopefully it's like having a top notch point guard passing to a dominating power forward who can actually win a title.

Well they always shock us with a move, don't they (JS/PC)?

No question he fits the need of a big receiving target and clearly was plan B once they failed to sign Thomas. Unger and the 1st rounder is the downside although Lewis looked good when Unger was out.

I have to think we'll see a DL added in FA, which should allow the Hawks to use the draft to fill depth/plan for the future.

Saying Graham is soft based on his couple of games against Seattle is like saying Peyton Manning is an awful QB based on 7 of his last 8 quarters against the Hawks D. Hate giving up Unger but the Saints aren't morons. You have to give up quality to get it unless a player has to be moved like Harvin.

Can Richardson be ready at the start of next year? There's your speed on the outside and Graham is the mis-match in the middle. Baldwin, Kearse, etc will fit in well with that group. Funny that we worry about our offense so much, and right now you could say that the Hawks have the best QB, RB, and TE in the division to go with the defense.

Are there any free agents interior linemen still sitting out there that can be signed for reasonable money? Or is the Unger replacement going to be internal or the draft?

I can understand the worrying of the issues, but the season haven't started and the players haven't met each other yet. I will start worrying when it looks like it's time to worry, right now I'm happy that we finally got a real threat on the receiving end. Don't you think this will make Wilson and Lynch more happy, it's going to lessen the amount of blitz and stacked boxes.

If he can stay healthy this trade betters the team and improves the 2015 chances of bringing home another Lombardi. Sucks to lose the best O lineman on the roster but it's obvious the Hawks are bargain basement shopping with O line and coaching them up. I visited a Saints forum and they are not aware of Ungers injury history, just as Hawk fans are not aware of JG's. Not a big deal losing our best O lineman with a young, fast on his feet, intelligent QB that is more cerebral than most young QB's. I keep thinking about how the Stealers won 2 SB's with the rapist. Not trying to compare big ben to RW, but it's kinda the same scenario. RW avoids the contact, the rapist just shrugged off the hits, just like the Cadillac windshield. Spend little on the blue collar guys and pay the playmakers, especially on D.

The real question is what will happen with RW's contract extension this year? Does he play out his rookie deal or extend? This deal may be about the ability to cut Graham next year or year after than what it appears to be today. The key to this strategy is to hit on mid round picks this year. Time will tell, hard to be discouraged with the track record of PC and JS.

Now, they just need to reign in the OC, no repeat of the play calling strategy of forcing the ball to one player at the beginning of the 2014 season.

Tentative thumbs up on this move.

I see no reason why it couldn't work, especially for us.

Our offensive line just got much weaker and given Bevell's inability to consistently utilize a tight end we just tied up $10 million/year on a player who will catch 50 passes a season max.

I'll take the over! How much we betting??

I don't love the fact that we surrendered a 1st yet again. It seems like we're routinely handing out high round picks while other teams are getting "name" players for 3rd/4th/5th/6th round picks. If Graham is truly worth a 1st to New Orleans, then they just wouldn't trade him.

They have a huge need at center and likely have an inflated opinion of Max Unger. Saints fans love this trade. From their perspective it's a nice haul for them, not a case of them selling low.

Has anyone heard Jimmy Graham say anything about getting traded to us or anything of that nature? I'm just wondering if he wants to play here? :?:

Plus if the rumor is true about Drew Brees being on the trading block it means they might not even think he's worth a 1st round either?

As we're looking to make sense of this trade, I think one thing that's got to be factored in is that this move is not just about the here and now -- it's about the future as well.

For everyone who's decrying this move, saying that this is going to affect our identity as a run first team -- let's be completely honest with ourselves for a second. How much longer is Marshawn Lynch going to continue to truly be Beast Mode? 1 to 2 years perhaps? Yes, Lynch is a special back -- an elite back -- one of the very best to every play the game. But the facts are he turns 29 here next month and that 30 is the usual magic number for running backs. We saw first hand how quickly that slide occurs with Shawn Alexander. I'm not saying that going to happen with Lynch this year or even next. It will eventually happen though and history says in terms of RB's, the slide is generally pretty quick. With the way Lynch runs, we're very much on borrowed time in Seattle. The clock is going to strike midnight and the coach turn in to a pumpkin at some point. Nobody knows when that's going to happen exactly but when it does, this offense will look radically different (and not in a good way) if it ultimately fails to improve, diversify, and change.

The bottom line is that this team and this offense needs to continue to evolve and grow. Russell Wilson is the future of this team and barring catastrophic injury to either party or a Percy Harvin-esque blow out and escort out of town, I would say the Wilson to Graham connection is one that should be in place for at least the next 5-7 years or so. Wilson has got to have more weapons around him or he's going to get killed.

In the Super Bowl, we all saw what Russell Wilson can do with a tall receiver who can go up for the jump ball. Chris Matthews performance in the SB ... coupled with Gronkowski's performance on the other side were shining examples of what elite height (coupled with elite speed and athleticism in Gronkowski's case) can do for a QB. And in Jimmy Graham, Russell Wilson now has a guy who brings those same basic elements Gronkowski does to the offense.

I'm not saying I don't have my reservations -- I most certainly do. I'm saying I'm very intrigued by this move and am very curious to see what the final product will look like on the field.

He tweeted with one word "traded" but i don't see it on his page. I think he's still in shock, he just got a new contract and he didn't even get to play a year in it before getting shored off.

For a while now I've viewed Russell Wilson as the Tony Parker of the NFL. Just a squirrelly guy who makes plays and wins games. Both are a part of strong supporting casts, both specialized in distributing the ball and outfoxing opponents. Both are easy to disrespect or underestimate, which is part of what makes them so good.

But the big difference between the two was that Parker had Tim Duncan to pass to. Without Duncan, Parker is a good player, but probably not a future HoFer. The entire time Wilson's been here, he's lacked that ace big man to feed the ball to. Well, now he's got one. I can't wait to see how Wilson fares next season with Graham impacting his performance.
