If it comes out that he wasn't wearing a helmet or was drinking or operating the ATV in a reckless manner, this further proves all the question marks about his lack of maturity were warranted.

Raw physical tools or not, there's a reason certain teams will pass on players with their 1st pick who have clear maturity or character or intelligence issues. Not saying this guy won't heavily contribute down the road but I'm just not totally shocked about this news.

For the Seahawks' sake, I sure hope they had a high-risk activity clause to protect themselves.

I did river rafting last week. Was awesome and fun

If I just signed my first NFL contract - no way I do it before my first season. Just no way. Get that first season money to have something in the bank

This is hopefully nothing by the time the season starts but he jeopardized his and the teams future (his mostly)

He'll be fine, whether this year or next. The team will be fine, this year and next. Malik doesn't make or break this team.

Seems like our 1st pick in the draft always gets injured. Might as well get it out of the way early.

Hope he is okay. Very frustrating though. Fun is one thing but avoiding chaos and being responsible is another. Being stupid on an ATV can be very dangerous. Wild mentality. Stuff happens but don't put your self in a position where things can go wrong.

What a great start to the the season...probably the start of many lows the way this unfolded. So much for year one for this guy...at least curry played...so many other guys we could of drafted.

That's what we get for drafting a Spartan. :stirthepot:

Ahh hahahaha...love it. Sparty gonna spart.

Kidding aside this kid could be a baller, hope he recovers quickly and can provide some more stoutness to the Dline.

I just couldn't resist. We should have drafted Taco..Damn!! ;)
Seriously though, I hope he recovers and plays this year. His potential is huge. Hope and pray he works for the team and that this is not the beginning of another injury bug for this season.((fingers crossed behind back))

Really sad news. Hope he's doing okay.

Given that it happened two weeks ago and he's just now saying he hopes to be in Seattle soon it sounds pretty serious. Not that I know much about these things, but if it was just a concussion, I can't imagine he wouldn't be able to fly three weeks later (or that the team would be talking about "long term committments" <---- and good on them for doing so).

Well, he has a chance to make it right. Let's see what you got kid. Poor choice for sure, but it's not like he's in jail for something, or is in trouble for some DV stuff etc.

Say what you want about having a "fun off-season" but it still wasn't a smart move. If my NFL career was just starting, I wouldn't be anywhere near an ATV or the like. Anyway, glad to hear it's nothing serious. Go Hawks!!

Tough break, and poor judgement at best IMO. I will reserve judgement until details emerge. Especially looking to see if he was even wearing a helmet. If he wasn't wearing a helmet, that crosses over from "accident" to living dangerously and stupidity.

What cracks me up is hearing people say stuff like "This is why I didn't like the pick in the first place."
Um.........ok

His motivation was questioned and giving it all to football every single play

Going out on an ATV and clearly going enough speed to hurt himself to an unknown degree can very much be argued being tied to the concerns about him

Well the knock on McDowell, which was the main reason he fell to the 2nd round was immaturity issues.

So the criticism is fair, albeit no one could have seen an ATV accident. But getting on an ATV 2 weeks before camp doesn't exactly prove the doubters wrong about his maturity level and decision making.

Wow that is insane.

I know im probably an old crotchety stick in the mud. But If I was an NFL player and I had such a tiny window to make my millions before i'm spit out of the machine. Im wrapping myself in bubble wrap inside a hyperbaric chamber and wont even watch ATV or Motorcycle events on tv..... but thats just me who's sitting at my "real job" thinking about the stupidity of this kid who had the world by the balls....... Oh well. you know what they say, can't fix stupid.
