Combined with no cap? Yes.

The Seahawks are going to need to release many more starters.

Last I checked, they'll end up needing about 8 starters plus 8 rotation-type players and have around $45M in cap to do it. And that doesn't count improving their current depth to be better than practice squad level.

It's going to be a challenging off-season for JS and the new HC.

Trim the fat baby. Anyone saying Johnson wants to start from scratch, well, Seattle provides it in spades also, if they're smart.

Over 20M in cap can be freed up by cutting Adams and either cutting or kicking some cap down the road with restructuring guys like Dissly, Lockett and Diggs, etc.

Btw, as much as I love these guys (except Adams), I'm just fine with getting lean and young next year and building for the future getting our cap right after overspending on free agents and bad trades so Pete could dream about his swan song playoff run that never happened.

Adams, Diggs, Lockett, Dissley, Mone, Eskridge at minimum. Maybe Geno, too.

I did this early look and it was quite depressing.

Roster/Cap

Since then, new info has come to light - Geno's 2024 salary becomes guaranteed 2/16. Lots of decisions soon to be made.

Lockett had an off year. Dropped passes and such. Didn't look like himself. I hope it was a wake up call for him to either hang it up, or get it together. I feel his head is outside the game, but either way, I hope he's with the Seahawks if he retires, or plans to play another season. That said, trim the fat everywhere else!

With a new HC and JS having to make some difficult decisions, I think it might be a bloodbath when it comes to keeping many of our players. It's very possible the new HC brings players from his previous team, which is not all that unheard of in the NFL. We have a few players are just overpaid and not providing the level of service for which they are paid. I think this next season, although many may not agree, the HC may cut many popular players to trim down the salary cap, some which will disagree with and question the motive, thus perhaps giving the HC a pass on the season results should they take a down turn in the win/close column. Speculation of course and just my view. This process isn't going to happen overnight and we are in for a long season ahead, but with me I'm hoping for the best expecting the worse type of mentality right now. Change is hard, nothing is guaranteed except death and taxes.

2024 cap hit forLockett $27M and DK $25M plus a 1st round JSN means we are extremely over-invested at WR.

I love Lockett as a Seahawk and hope he would agree to come back in a limited role at ~$6M. Become a 3rd down specialist like Engram was. Split snaps with Bobo and Young at WR3, and be available for WR2 if JSN gets injured.

There's not enough targets to justify ~20% of your cap on 2 WRs. Just like investing another ~20% in safeties. Add in QB and you're spending over 50% on 5 players ranked middle of the pack or lower. A team can't seriously compete with such a flawed model.

TRIM THE FAT!

That would be the way to go, IMO. I sure hope you're right.

New coach always releases players….

All part of the process….

Expect a lot of guys even those you thought would stay to be gone….

Likely to stay:

Spoon
JSN
K9
Mafe
DK (I hope)

Everyone else might be fair game…

With cuts and two year dead cap splits, $20 million can be saved on Geno Smith, $17 million on Tyler Lockett, $12 million on Jones, $7 million on Dissly, etc. They have options and they'll carry costs over next year. The decisions won't be easy but they rarely are for any team.

Here we go, lets cut everyone making over a million and wow look at our cap space, then lets hear everyone bitch about having a shit team after 4 games and we should just tank the season for a QB next year. By week 12 fire John and the Coach start being posted. Jody sell the team to someone who cares soon to follow. Yep we are in the off season.............. :)

Already covering our basis for a 5-12 season, I see. ;)

Maybe. Hard to tell before free agency and the draft.

But I could see a couple get right years a the new coach and John rebuild the roster in their image. Just the defensive side of the ball is going to take at LEAST 2-3 years to get right, holes all over the place.....and more holes to fill if guys like Diggs and Wagner aren't back.

All three levels will need major additions.

We have had this same post three seasons in a row. The guys in the front office make a lot of money to make the money work.

We've had the same posts 10 years in a row because the guys in the front office have done a poor job of making the money work.
