Regression. Sophomore slump. Defenses figuring him out. I've heard these mentioned more than once regarding Russell Wilson. Is it true? Well, let's look at some numbers from the last five games he played last season and the first five games of this season.

2012
83/125, 66.4%, 1198 yds (239.6/gm), 9 TDs (7.2%), 2 Ints (1.6%), 4-1 record

2013
74/127, 58.3%, 997 yards (199.4/gm), 8 TDs (6.3%), 4 Ints (3.1%), 4-1 record

In both cases he played 2 home games and 3 road games. Even played them in the same order, R, H, H, R, R, and in both cases the team won the first four and lost the fifth. 2012's opponents were a bit better, with a combined winning percentage of .593 compared to .417 for 2013's opponents.

So, against arguably inferior opponents Russell is completing 8% fewer of his passes for 40 fewer yards per game and he's throwing interceptions at twice the rate. Why? Is it his ability? The offensive line? The playcalling? The receivers?

Personally I think it's a combination of factors and I trust in Pete Carroll, Darrell Bevell, and, most importantly, Russell Wilson to sort this out and get back to playing better and more consistently in the passing game. What say you?

He's not throwing the ball well so far, but I am very hesitant to put much blame on him. I think he has lousy support from pass pro so far, and Bevell doesn't seem to know how to build a passing game for him. "Run verts and scramble" or "Bootleg" seem to be the passing game so far.

Nope, Seattle has injuries really making these numbers looking worse. Also, 3 10 am games in the first 5 is making a difference.

After Tenn at home, Seattle should go on a tear and get back to killing teams.

Are people still claiming Lynch has lost a step, like they were a few weeks ago?

Calm down. Let it play out.

I'm with you Abs, and I think the patchwork offensive line is having a big effect not only on the effectiveness of the passing game but on the playcalling as well.

We went 4-0 last year? That's news to me

Quarterback play is the only deciding factor on a team's record?

From the pocket absolutely. He overthrew a lot of guys in preseason and is doing it now in the regular season. Certainly the patchwork line is not helping but his passing has regressed.

Haha yeah I don't think your stats are 100% correct
Last five games played last season: @ Buffalo (W), vs. San Fran (W), vs. St. Louis (W), @ Washington (W), @ Atlanta (L).

How could you possibly gauge his performance considering he is playing with half his freaking team? Too many guys are missing too much practice and game time.

Too small of a sample size and too many wild cards to say he's regressing. He could be playing better though.

I still wouldn't trade him for another QB in the league.

Missing many guys that are very open. Overthrowing from the preseason and on.
