If this is frisco's big strategy to stop Wilson, they are in Deep Trouble!

Yeah, that make him roll out left idea has worked real well for teams in the past:

I've notice on the Saints and 49ers forums they're talking about forcing Wilson to roll to his left is the key to beating the Hawks. Where are they getting this information? Any stats that shows this? I know being right handed it's harder throwing across your body for any right handed QB. I haven't seen Wilson really have any issues doing this during games though. The pass that Kearse dropped during the Saints game, Wilson rolled left and put it where it needed to be. I just don't see him rolling to his left being a weakness for him. In fact, I think since his played baseball as a 2nd baseman, it has probably helped him when he has to roll left.

Thoughts?

Forcing a quarterback to break the pocket to the opposite side of his throwing arm is a good strategy as a defense against any quarterback, including Russell. Some are better at throwing while running away from their throwing side than others. It's a human characteristic that's inherent with everyone. Michael Vick, for example, has a huge disparity in production when rolling to his right vs. his left or throwing side.

I don't know if they've had a large enough sampling to determine just how good Russell is rolling to his left vs. his right. I'm sure there's going to be some difference, but just how great a difference there is and whether or not it's worth the effort to try to force him to roll left and at what expense is an open question.

i dont think he cares. he's made those throws no problem, and i was watching it thinking exactly that, "how the hell did he just do that?"

I agree I am thinking they just figure he is right handed, but they forget he has thrown very well rolling left and right it really does not matter, they are just grasping at straws.

I don't profess to have studied every quarterback who's ever lived, but i feel pretty confident in saying that Russell Wilson is probably the best QB ever at throwing while rolling to his non-dominant side. It's a thing of beauty...

Wilson is so good, the only theory on stopping him is making him run 10 feet to his left. Have these people ever seen him play? Forcing him to use his feet and he will make your defense look silly as they chase him around for 10 seconds before he does a little 360 and throws it for a 40 yard completion!

Watch the throw he made to Jermaine Kearse this past weekend (that he dropped) that would have been a touchdown while rolling to his left. He doesn't care what direction he has to roll out it. I think his history of playing baseball really helped him develop the ability to throw the ball accurately moving to his left or his right.

What is amazing is how quickly the ball comes out of there

With that said those sideline toe-tap catches will just get the saints fan to say - see much harder for them and required amazing catches that they normally will drop

There is also the issue of it takes slightly longer for him to turn his body right to throw that pass. It is just the way humans work and you give the defenders a tad bit more time because of it. But accuracy is there no doubt about it

He's the best in the league at rolling to his left and throwing. Another example was the Kearse drop in the endzone on MNF. There is literally no way to stop Wilson, you just hope to contain him

Throwing across your body isn't too hard for a guy who's played infield at the professional level

Point I was just going to make. 2-3 times a game I see Wilson make a "baseball throw" that generally work out swimmingly.

I know it's not rolling left, but the Doug Baldwin TD across his body in the Saints game was a clear example of this. Wilson was obviously "turning two" on that throw - although the direction was reversed the body movement was identical.

I think it's really cool when you see a top flight athlete take skills from one sport and turn them into strengths in another.

Regardless of Russell's ability or inability, the strategy is sound for defensing all mobile quarterbacks. It puts a much larger section of the playing field out of range for a quarterback that is rolling opposite of his throwing side unless he takes the time to stop and set his feet.

He always seems to get his shoulders squared when he sets up to throw. It's just uncanny.

1. I agree with others here that middle infielders enjoy a more robust skill set than specialists like pitchers reliant on their fastball.

2. Other fan communities follow their teams much more closely compated to opponents. So .... they resort to relying on statistics in isolation from the actual game action of opponents. A lot of inferences can be generated by statistical speculation. Unfortunately validating inferences is an exercise few fans engage in.

3. Inspiration for the speculation you mention comes from statistical sites and presentations such as this example >>>>> [urltargetblank]http://nflsavant.com/game.php?team_code=SEA&team_id=4600&game_id=REG[/urltargetblank]

4. We all need to remember to be fair and smart about how statistics are used.

As a former high school QB, and not a very good one, I always found it easier to throw going to my left rather than my right because you're forced to square your shoulders to even make the throw in the first place.

running to his left and throwing seems second nature to him. Playing an infield position during his stint in baseball helps with this tremendously.

I suppose it's just the lesser of two evil because, regardless of whether he can make plays rolling to the left, it's still more difficult than a righty rolling right.

A whole lot of desperate and wishful thinking on the webzone of late. If you want some laughs go read the seahawks thread starting on page 1. Good stuff! :)

The best way to stop Russell Wilson is to be the St. Louis Rams.
