He was initially assessed a fine of $40,000, but per JaDeveon, he appealed it and won.

Every news outfit out there is still reporting "Clowney was fined $40,000 for his hit on Foles."

They might fine him on this one, but I could see it going either way. At the time, nobody noticed the "incidental" helmet-to-helmet contact.

It was only after Wentz left, and they started playing it SloMo that everyone all of a sudden experienced revisionist history. "I saw it at the time, it was a dirty hit!"

I read on a couple of sites that there will be no suspension. What a silly thought, that a play no one noticed at the time might lead to a suspension.

THIS is funny!

Carson Wentz was concussed late in the first quarter by Jadeveon Clowney. It was one of the dirtiest plays in recent NFL history.

Wentz was squarely speared in the head, on a helmet-to-helmet hit, as he was already sliding down to the turf. No flags were thrown and no penalties were called. The Eagles quarterback was escorted off the field and checked out for concussion symptoms. He never returned.

He was escorted off the field? "Squarely?" "One of the dirtiest hits in recent NFL history?" Carson was "already sliding?"

There is no way he's not getting fined. Too much media hype around it.

But wait, this was a "blatant cheap shot" and he should be kicked out of the league! Sign our stupid petition because someone got hurt in a football game

I grew up in Philly, and it feels like everyone I know from there is messaging me trying to get me to admit the hit was dirty. As if I hold some sort of moral authority being a Seahawk's fan who benefited from the hit.

I don't know how anyone could look at that hit and think he intentionally targeted Wentz head. Was he trying to be physical and play to the whistle? Absolutely. But intentionally targeting Wentz head? Give me a break. If Wentz was a running back and this play happened no one in Philly would bat an eye.

Depending on the angle that people chose to show Clowney hit with his helmet first or his shoulder first. Most choose to show the former as it makes their case as the latter view shows most of the blow being initiated with his shoulder. Yes, Wentz could have been concussed with his head being smashed into the ground by any kind of hit. In fact he could have been concussed with no hit what so ever.

Any player acting as a running back with the ball who is not down and is proceeding headfirst is initiating the likelihood of head to head contact. That's why they came up with the feet first slide rule as a protective move of submission. I agree it's a real drag Wentz was hurt on the play and I wish it hadn't happened. But inventing a scenario that did not exist is no way to administer justice.

He was running with the ball, not sliding and trying to gain yardage. Clowney rocked him as he should have and we have seen plenty of guys getting their helmets brushed by players that wenren't called. Heck, how many times have they missed those on Wilson while he was in the pocket?

Would that be because Nick Foles doesn't play for the Eagles?

Bear in mind that every player who goes to the locker room with an injury is 'escorted off the field'. I think it's generally a security person to make sure they don't get stuff thrown at them by the crowd, I'm sure there can also be a medical professional depending on the injury.

That's what he gets for Clowneying around, though it does make a good case for Nick Foles Wentz Rodgers Jr. to maybe have the equipment guy wrap his head with Bubble Wrap before putting on his helmet.
Seriously though, I hate seeing ANYONE get concussed, up to and including ALL the players on the field...It's one of the downsides of playing full contact sports....Just ask Cliff Avril, Recardo Lockette, & Kam Chancellor.

The play wasn’t “dirty”

JC has no history of being dirty.

I understand why Philly fans are upset ( I would be too)but they need to get over it.

It’s FREAKING FOOTBALL.

Football is a violent sport, it’s played at high speed with tons of passion.

The “hit” was not intentional.

Anyone that’s willing to look at more than the “still shot” knows what happened and what didn’t happen.

Dude was a runner not a QB that gave himself up.

The helmet to helmet was incidental NOT intentional.

No fine should be assessed.

YMMV but why would it?

I'm having troubles understanding what this thread is about?

Why are we mixing this year and last years hits with 2 different QB's?

Has there even been a determination on the fine yet? A straight answer would be nice because many here think he is clear on the fine now.

Even the link in the OP is dead......

My bad.
Nick Foles?

Wait what.

Now I’m confused.

My comment was in reference to the hit on Wentz this past game.

What are we talking about please?

That must have been some hit. It went right through Wentz and into Foles who isn’t even an Eagle. That’s one powerful hit!

Some of you folks are being a bit obtuse. OP is simply pointing out that Clowney's past fine was appealed and overturned, and thus the eagles/fans who are currently arguing he has a history of dirty play based on that fine are factually wrong to include it.
