For those of you laughing at the 49ers and at Lockette, I seem to remember many of you (myself included) thinking that he was going to be a big part of the Seahawks, so I wouldn't laugh to hard.

That was before we knew this was his playbook:

9780545495400 p0 v1 s260x420

Yeah...that one made me laugh. LOL.

I must say I was worried when I heard Kaep had to change the names of the plays for him to understand. That isn't promising.

Frank Gore is SEVERELY dislexic and scored a 6 on the wonderlic and never once had a problem learning a playbook. Two years in an offense should be more than enough.

Harbaugh on Lockette this offseason: "There’s something special there. I just feel it."

LOL

49er fans were talking about how Lockette was going to be awesome this year because he is Kaepernick's roommate.
Well there were high hopes for his skill set. Wonderful speed, but apparently not much more than that. No hands, no shake and bake, and no catches at all in any pre-season games.
Us Hawk fans were telling you SF fans that all along. RL runs
one play, "go deep". He is a track guy trying to play football.

I would imagine Lockette goes back to the 9ers PS once the final cutdowns are done. He probably still has eligibility left. I think he has less than 9 games on the active roster?

He turned down a chance late last year to come off the 9ers PS to go on an active roster. I would imagine the team rewards him for his loyalty. Or not. Not sure how they feel about keeping him around for another year on the PS. But I bet they sign him to the PS if no one picks him up in the next few weeks.

I would be a little surprised if that happened. Teams usually don't PS guys they cut before even the first wave of cuts (90 --> 75). It would be like us PS'ing Greg Herd or Matt Austin. Then again, the 49ers are a black hole at WR, so who knows?

I've never bought into the Lockette hype, but actually thought he'd get some PT with the 49ers. The 49ers desperately need speed in that WR corp.

Lockette must be gawd awful to get cut.

I was a little worried when Lockette signed with SF. Worried in the same way that I am worried about the flight I catch crashing and killing everyone on board. You just knew he'd be harmless in a SF uni, but if he bucked the odds, it would have sucked for us.

So are the Niners going to really run Kyle Williams out there at the Z?

Honestly, as good as Colin Kaepernick is at this point, I doubt even Niners fans think he's at the Brady/Manning stage where he will make whatever receivers he has look at the very least like fringe All-Pro talent. I like Vernon Davis as a pass catching threat as much as the next guy, but the Niners have almost no vertical threats. At least they have a formidable run game, but if Gore falls off a cliff this year...

Never thought Lockette was going to be "awesome". Maybe a chance to be the #4 or #5 wr.

Harbaugh always has glowing remarks for his players, that's just the way he is.

Some of the 49er fans on here are a little more level-headed most of the time.

Niner fans on Pro Football Talk and some other Niner forums had much higher expectations.

That's true of a lot of these specialists. They play track and field and the coach sees that speed as he runs track and persuades them to try out for football, when their main interest is really track and field.

It's true, the 49ers don't have a lot of 4.3 guys, but they do have a couple 4.5 guys. Depending on scheme, those will have to do for the X receiver roles for this year until they can go back in the draft and get some legit 4.3 burners. I'm betting the 49ers will go dumpster diving after the 53 man cut to find some potential burners for their team.

Most likely will not happen, just pondering the possibility. They could opt to bringing him back later in the season to the PS if no one bites on him and they start having injuries in the WR corp. He has to have some value to them at that point, if not just for the scout team and being familiar with their offense

Yeah, this is sort of funny that after all the talk, Lockette gets cut (at least temporarily.) But, I actually don't like that Jon Baldwin is a 49er. CP was set to be the slightly average QB I think he really is. I don't like seeing an under-achieving WR added there. Hopefully Jon Baldwin is just as ineffective as Lockette was for the Niners.

Go Hawks.

taking this totally out of context, players mentioned aside......what does slightly average mean?
i really want to know is just above or just below average? or does it mean average?

It constitutes a range from slight below to slightly above.... average.

Sure, I'll go with that. Does it really matter? (For the record, I think I meant to say slightly above average. But, perhaps as it turns out the lack of clarity was appropriately fitting.) The main point was to be optimistically pessimistic ;) about Jon Baldwin.

Yeah I remember seeing a whole lot of comments saying he was the next great thing, so it's kinda funny seeing him getting released again. Dude came off kinda cocky to me from his RRR interview, but that's not really a big deal. Good luck to him on his next venture.

So does Jacksonville snag Lockette? Or maybe the Raiders? Or does Lockette move on to his post-NFL life and do something else?

Must be a rough home life for Kaep and Lockette... Don't they live together?
