If that is so, if he clears waivers he would be the Patriots player by reverting to their IR list as injured and unclaimed.

Seattle could pick him up off waivers as an injured player for the PS and then put him on the PSIR here if they so wished.

Complicated, but this would be a way of keeping his rights if the Hawks so wished to do so. He'd then have to reach an injury settlement with the team holding his rights to return or he could just settle with NE if he wished and be a FA.

This is an interesting situation. Technically the player was injured as a Seahawks player and has been waived and claimed off waivers but was injured at the time so Seattle could be liable for the medical expense. If he was waived (but actually injured) he should revert to the Seahawks IR but I expect he will probably become a Patriot.

This delves into a gray area. Player and medical inputs and their combination are unique to each situation. Last year, Tyler Lockett began the year recovering from a leg injury that improved as the year progressed. This year, Doug Baldwin has elected to begin the year on a compromised knee. Was Amara Darboh really open to going on injured reserve with Seattle? Did a second opinion in Boston change his mind? Was Amara Darboh medical condition aggravated in New England? Was his move to New England just a clever agent ploy to extricate him from crowded receiver core in favor of a red shirt year with a needy receiver core?

I think the big lesson from last year is that injury reports are of limited usefulness. There are always a combination of factors at work.

So with the news that ET has returned and in fact practiced with the team today he needs to be added to the active roster from the RDNR status that allowed him not to be counted as part of the 53.

I'm afraid I don't know the rules as far as this situation is concerned and how long the team has to get their numbers in order after he begins practicing. Does anyone know?

For now I will list him as part of the active roster but the numbers are not right and there will need to be a corresponding cut or player released.

ET is in exempt status which usually allows for two weeks to make active. The deadline to make a move is still Saturday at 1:00. Once he moves from exempt to active the team has to make another move.

Updated.

Thanks Jville, the churning continues. If Simeon Thomas clears waivers I can see the team adding him to the PS and I can see the team trying to re-sign Maxwell and Walden, at a point going forward.

Earl Thomas is now able to be activated on Saturday without further rosterbation.

I expect several roster moves next week for both the 53 and the PS depending upon the outcome of the Denver game.

The following might be of interest ....... [tweet]https://twitter.com/BradyHenderson/status/1038216118018527232[/tweet]

Although I was an enthusiastic fan of Byron Maxwell, I suspect a younger Neiko Thorpe has already replaced him. Neiko is a primary backup on the outside as well as a primary backup on the inside behind Justin Coleman. And of course Neiko's special teams leadership is ...... special.

I’ve been thinking that as well about Thorpe, and it will be a bit until either Maxwell or Walden are able to be added as FAs, but if the edge rush is weak there will be additional pressure on the #2 CB that will need to be addressed by adding experienced depth to the position and the stealth addition of Walden back to a situational pass rush could be a positive. From the very small sample we saw from him in the preseason he could be an unrealized talent as a situational pass rusher.

If Thorpe does step up at RCB gaining significant PT on the outside his ST role may be reduced by necessity. A decision will then have to made as to his best use. For now he is unappreciated depth at CB and played well at times when asked to play on the edge.

For sure there will be a roster move today as ET is activated from his exempt status. That move will mak the 200th roster move of this season. In terms of assessment and the churn, things are beginning to look like 2012 or prior in terms of a steady churn to access any possible potential roster improvement, incremental as it may seem.

With enough cap JS has been pretty good at finding help at positions needing it. Some areas are harder than others as we all recognize.

As a matter of speculation, there is now room for Simeon Thomas on the practice squad.

And there is this .....................

So King to the active roster for Johnson. But doesn’t someone need to be released to make room for ET?
