Worried about RW's future

Does anyone else have the same concern as I, when it comes to RW and the possibility that his running could lead to a serious injury? With the new rule of head hunting, you see a lot more DB's going for legs. I know RW has eyes in the back of his head it seems, knows how to slide, but darn Bradford tore his knee up stopping going out of bounds. I look at some of the running QB's all the way back to Randal Cunningham, who was often injured and every time RW takes off I keep my fingers crossed.

I worry about RW getting hurt in general, but not specifically because of the running. he is so great at getting out of bounds, sliding, etc... I think most the big hits he takes are in the pocket like last week with all those fumbles. It seems to me he is more vulnerable standing in the pocket behind our current O-Line than running out in space.

Football is a brutal game - you just have to hope your key guys don't get injured.

Fran Tarkenton played 18 years and missed 8 games over the course of that career. He was almost exactly the type of QB that Wilson is, and he played in a time where QBs were nowhere near as protected.

And Wilson's got more muscle on him. In fact, I seem to recall reports that Wilson spent a lot of this offseason working on building muscle so he could better withstand the hits he'd take over the course of the season.

I'm not any more worried about him being injured running than I would be about him taking a hit in the pocket (lots of those non-running QBs have missed plenty of time, too).

This! He has sustained quite a few bludgeonings behind that screen door OLine lately. The best thing Bevell could do right now (for his health) is get him moving. Not the Best solution I grant you, but due to Wilson's unique abilities it is working.

I'm more worried about him getting injured behind suspect pass protection than during a scramble. I actually feel relieved when he gets out of the pocket.

I'm not worried, but acknowledge that I could be wrong - I believe that Russel is less susceptible to injury than other QB's for a couple of reasons - he's less compact and more muscular than other QBs - giving him a tighter core, and he's always looking to avoid pressure and generally finds a way to avoid big hits.

Not worried.

He's Mighty Mouse, haven't you heard?

Yea, it may look like he's running around, but really he's flying around, just above the ground, gliding around opposing teams.

Nope. He's not out there taking huge bone-breaking hits on the run as others have mentioned. Nor is he doing a lot of sharp cutting on the turf because he's tremendously fluid, which will save a lot of wear and tear on his legs. He's going to be fine.

Wilson avoids contact better than any QB in the league and I would be more worried if he was a statue that gets teed off on all the time. Anyone can get hurt but I don't see him as a greater risk than anyone else.

every QB takes hits, and has the possibility of getting injured on any given play. part of the game, no need to worry about that kind of stuff, just enjoy.... it's not like he's this frail little guy, he's a pretty solid dude at 200+ and does a fairly good job at avoiding the big hits. worst hits i've seen so far is when he's stayed in the pocket.

I think that even with TJax , this team could win a playoff game. With Wilson we are a SB winning team.

I know it isn't sexy, but I just think they simply MUST make Oline a major priority on draft day. They need to protect him better so he doesn't need to run or escape the pocket as much. He is young now and has amazing escapability, but that isn't a long term solution.

I believe RW's frame actually helps in this manner. That and his intelligence with avoiding contact. I believe it's easier for a taller guy to get injured.

the hits he takes from running are MUCH softer than the hits he'd take in the pocket behind a non-existent o-line

All QBs are vulnerable inside or out of the pocket. Usually it is while getting taken to the ground and getting their ankles/legs caught in an awkward position. Aros had a picture of Wilson being taken to the ground against the Cardinals where the DL was laying across Wilson's ankles and his foot was pinned back. Look at Cutler's injury. Look at the shots QBs take while staring down the barrel and delivering a strike.

You just accept the fact that anything can happen any play and hope once a play end, no one is laying on the field needing medical attention. All your dreams are held by a string, ready to snap at anytime. Such is the sport. Stinks but until robots replace all humans as players ... Oh right, Wilson is a robot.
