It shouldn't have even happened. There were only 4 minutes of stoppage but then another minute was added because of the slow substitution. People may rail on football for only having 10 minutes of actual play, but at least it takes the clock seriously and doesn't feature players flopping all over the place, adding more useless time.

Pretty sure they announced 5 minutes of stoppage time. Maybe i'm wrong.

stoppage time is added because of the length between free kicks, throw ins, goals, etc. and any serious injury. referees are rarely conned by "flopping" and even yesterdays ugly match between Italy and Uruguay you could see the ref point to his watch as the Italians rolled on the ground.

If its not for you, then so be it. MLS tried to do a stopped clock a couple decades ago. Its pointless in soccer. players and coaches know how to deal with the extra minutes and why they exist.

France would have to have a melt down....

But Switzerland and Ecuador’s advancement prospects are more complicated. Switzerland is guaranteed to advance if:

It beats Honduras and Ecuador draws or loses.
It draws Honduras and Ecuador loses.

Ecuador is guaranteed to advance if:
It beats France and Switzerland draws or loses.
It draws France and Switzerland loses.
Both matches in Group E are draws.

Swiss are looking good. That first goal by Shaquri was fantastic. Wow he's got 2 now

come on Smurfy....we got burned by piss poor defending in the midfield, poor marking and recognition by the cbacks and for whatever reason we let the best player in the world stand with the ball at his feet without pressure to serve in a cross.

Honestly, the blame lies entirely on the 7 Americans that were behind the ball after Bradley lost it. watch the replay. Beasely(?) giving Ronaldo time to set up (f--ing hit him! clothesline him! tackle him! shoot him with a motherf---ing stun gun). 3 players settled outside the 18 but a good 25 yards from the only two Portuguese that were dangerous, and 3 cbacks starting at the ball and not looking over their shoulders.

Yeah like you said, if you have to blame "one" guy I would say Cameron. Dude shanked a clearance ball in the first 5 and got lazy getting back and in better position in the last minute. Cameron took a half assed look back when he was running back to his position and didn't even see the guy and to make matters worse he just kind of stuck his foot out there on the Ranaldo cross on defense rather than working harder to clear it with a header and beat the guy to the ball. Bradley could have done more, which pissed me off, but he didn't lose/tie the game. I know its not a loss but it felt like a loss kind of.

he'd be my focus as well, if i felt like it had to be "one" guy. He's in the PL as well. you'd think facing some of the best attacking talent in the world week in, week out would give him a bit less trauma at a critical moment

not in total agreement with letting Beasely off so easy, although I can understand holding up the best player in the world instead of trying to physically drag him down

Cameron again lost the focus on it. another issue that he doesnt take into effect, and the last still shows it perfectly, is Jones, Gonzales and one other American racing towards the ball. training tells you to drop straight into the box. protect the goal first, especially when aware this was portugal's last attempt

anyway, time to move on to Germany

Pretty much spot on. And I don't want to blame "one" guy here but Cameron has to survey the field similar to what a safety or middle linebacker does in American Football. That guy says Cameron didn't see the eventual scorer but he should have known he was there even before Bradley loses possession. Thats job 101 as a sweeper (last line of defense defender). He is the Bobby Wagner/Earl Thomas of the defense. And even more so he has to be aggressive and clear any ball thats a threat. Thats his job.

Last thing on this... One thing that I found unusual was Howard's reaction. He's got the best view out there, is the vocal leader of the group and the most experienced player on the field ( for either team believe it or not) yet he was fixated on Ronaldo

The whole 15 seconds just illustrates the gap in experience. We were clearly better, but at a vital moment just s little naive.
One thing I'd love to see from this world cup is players like Johnson Bresler Yedlin Zusi get a look at a top level European league. Its not always the best for young players but I can see them benefitting
