They have cap room, and the full impact of his contract wouldn't be felt until later. Plus, he's played himself out of a $60M contract. He's a $30M type guy now.
Not very likely. There are only 3 $30m QBs. 40 year old Rodgers, Carr and Baker. At a minimum he has earned Dimes/Cousins money ($40m+). Can you honestly say he is worse than Lawrence or Love? That's $55m money.

A fan not wanting their team to make the playoffs? In my opinion…that makes zero sense…
Just wear and tear. They won’t win the Super Bowl so no real point to it

Ok…but I always hope my teams make it past the regular season…no team has ever, nor will ever, win the SB without first making it to the playoffs.

Really odd. Playoffs should be the priority no matter what. ..
Exactly! At the very least it gives the younger players playoff experience and the fans to watch their team play another game.

Worse draft position and less time to recover are a couple of good reasons to wish your team didn’t make the playoffs in a year when it’s clear they have no chance of going all the way, and have a foundation for making a run in the next couple of years.

To each his/her own. I can see both sides. But I would never in a million years want my team to miss playoffs. But that's just me.

Right there with ya. Playoffs are bonus games. Going deep in the playoffs and winning the Owl? Extra bonus. We go into a season with 17 regular season games guaranteed. Plus three preseason contests just to get the juices flowing. I just can't fathom, any notion of 'nah I really don't want to see my team play anymore games." Seriously, WTF?

Their window is nailed shut. They may even pass on Purdy. $55 million? They are whispering about Shanny and Lynch. The cupboards are bare. Their stars are fat and overpaid. CNC has to pay the bill for finally being healthy a few years. Deebo is washed. They can compete like we did 2015-2020 but it's over for this group.

I'll wager they do - and that is beautiful.

That whole offense needs CMC and to some extent the old Deebo to make it go. I think both those guys are done. If that is the case Purdy will be serviceable - but the team as whole becomes much less of a force.

Window might not be completely closed - but it is certainly swinging.

The window is closing for the 9ers and they soon will need to pay their QB market rates.

Don't ever forget they are much like the Cowboys as the Digits last won a SB in 1995.

The injuries are a real function of the aging veterans who have a lot of mileage on them.

Meanwhile they still are a tough out but are getting outed with greater frequency recently.

Kittle seems to be borderline glass. Williams is starting to show his age. Deebo is out a lot. McCaffrey, same. If I was a niners fan, I'd be plenty worried.
From what I've seen of Jauan Jennings of late, I'd take him in a heartbeat. He's a keeper.

And Ricky Pearsall's career is just getting started, I'd say he's off to an okay start. Hard to find targets for Pearsall if Deebo, CMC, Kittle and Jennings are all healthy... even with Aiyuk on IR.

They can probably still win the division and maybe a playoff game or two in the upcoming years, but this looks exactly like the post SB contention purgatory for them now. They've got players declining, got rookie deals becoming big extensions, and have suffered brutally from whiffing their big swing at trading a bunch of picks for their missing piece. There's a ton of comparisons to be made to the Seahawks post SB49.
