So, what is the best scenario?

I know we don’t know how things will finish up but.....

I’m guessing that there is a few scenarios, possibly one or two being that we finish as 6 seed as opposed to 5 seed.

Anyone have input/an opinion?

best scenario tonight is the packers and Vikings tie again. despite Vikings having a better record then the packers, I rather have them lose tonight. they would have to go almost perfect rest of the season.

In looking at the remaining schedules, I think we pull for the Vikings tonight.

The Packers have by far the easier remaining schedule, and it would be nice to have them out of the picture.

The Vikings will lose more games down the stretch (including to us). So while we want the Vikes to lose so we can move up easier to the 5th seed, I think big picture a Packers loss tonight keeps them from sneaking back into the race late in the season.

Packers/VIkings game doesn’t matter much to the Seahawks.

If the Packers win, this site gives the Seahawks a 79% chance to make the playoffs (but a 60% chance at the 5th seed).

If the Vikings win, they give us an 80% chance to make the playoffs (and a 59% chance at the 5th seed).

Analysis: A Vikings win over the Packers slightly improves the Seahawks chances of making the playoffs by ~1%, but it also slightly diminishes our chances of getting the 5th seed by ~1%.

In theory, yes probably true.

However, the reality is we want as few teams around in the "scrum" as possible. Green Bay could honestly quite easily finish 9-6-1 which could edge us out of a seed or even a playoff spot if we stub our toe down the stretch. No reason not to want to bury them and their ridiculously easy down the stretch schedule.

True. But the Vikings could do the same thing. A win over GB would give them a 6-4-1 record with games remaining against Miami at home, Detroit on the road, and Chicago at home.

The Seahawks vs. Vikings game is also somewhat of a tossup. There is an argument to be made for wanting to crush any momentum the Vikings may have now. A three-game losing streak for them (if they lose to both Green Bay and New England) would be mighty nice. I’m slightly leaning toward wanting Green Bay to win for this reason.

I totally agree. We are gonna have to go on the road if we make the playoffs anyway, so it would be best to eliminate as many wild card contenders as soon as possible.

Then we would have to worry about 2 teams. Its better Greenbay loses now.

Vikings has to play us, patriots, & bears.

The New York Times simulator remains the most bearish on the Seahawks’ playoff chances, giving them a 66% chance right now.

If the Vikings win, they actually have the Seahawks probability dropping to around 65%.

If the Packers win, that increases the Seahawks probability to around 70%.

Just out of curiosity (because I have no idea lol) do these playoff simulators take into account the fact that the Vikings have to play the Patriots, us, the Bears and a decent Dolphins team while the Pack plays the cards, jets, and Lions?

A Green Bay win tonight nearly guarantees them 9 wins. Vikings...even with a win are probably going to be an 8 win team when it is all said and done. Considering the schedules, I am having a hard time seeing a scenario where a Packers win is a better thing for us. Maybe a wash at most.

Yeah, they consider all those probabilities. The problem is the Vikings already have five wins. A win over Green Bay gives them six. They will likely beat Miami (at home) and Detroit, giving them eight wins in this scenario. Then they may beat Chicago and/or Seattle for nine or ten wins.

If Green Bay wins, that’s still only five wins for them. Meaning, they would have to win at least four of their last five games. They play Chicago on the road, while Minnesota gets Chicago at home in the season finale.

Like I said, it’s a close case. There are definitely ways in which a Vikings loss to the Packers benefits the Seahawks.

Wierd....they have Washington in 6th position. Dallas in the 4th position as a division leader. Vikes as the 5th position.

Hmmm.......Maybe we need a win over UW????

Washington has a better conference record than us. But they are definitely trending down with their QB on IR. It's only a matter of time before they are right out of the playoff picture. Probably this weekend when they face Philly.

WE just have to keep taking care of business and beat everyone on our slate other than KC. Do that and we are in.

Washington has a better conference record than us because they've played fewer AFC teams than us. If both Seattle and Washington win out, they will be tied in conference record (9-3) and that's more difficult for Washington even setting aside Colt McCoy. There is a good chance that Seattle will win that head to head in such a case. Even if they don't, Seattle doesn't have to overtake both the Vikings and Washington. One will do, and winning out assures that.
