The idea of the salary cap is to prevent the richest teams winning every season and those with less money not having a chance. This means success depends on making the right decisions. It's not perfect the richest owners take advantage of cap inflation to pay players using the next 2-3 years of cap space.I'm pretty sure the trade for Deshaun will go down as the worst in history if it hasn't already. And his contract is also probably the worst in history, for the team and for the NFL.
The whole idea of the salary cap is to provide parity. How much parity is there when a player who isn't even on the field is getting $73 million in each of the next two years? The team is screwed. I don't know what the answer is but something needs to happen with these absurd QB contracts.
Certainly there is some luck involved if the Browns had sold the farm to get Mahomes and suddenly he starting losing a lot of time to injury I would have some sympathy but Watson was full of red flags and not only did they give up a load of draft capital to get him but they gave him a huge amount of guaranteed money, my understanding however is they are not in cap hell as they can afford to use future cap space I heard somewhere that even if you take out Watson's pay the total salary of the Browns is 8th highest in the league.
