Sometimes you have to look at the roster as a business. At this stage in our cycle and in DK's career, we need to weigh up the value to the franchise of a first and a younger receiver versus a great WR about to enter the fall of his production and the salary obligations that come with it.

I love watching the guy but if we get a first and Wicks or Doubs, that's a win for us.

This draft is deep we can move back with that extra first and pick up more draft capital/vet/potentially higher pick in 2026.

Exactly. Too many people think they should make decisions based off emotion. As a business JS has to make hard decisions that will sometimes be unpopular because it’s best for the vision and business.

Just a fun thought, we trade DK for a 2026 first round pick. That team goes defeated and we get Manning in next year's draft!

Trade or cut a few more to speed up the process: Geno, DK, Lockett, Fant x 2, Riq, Reed, etc.

I don't think we're rebuilding at all.

Our defense was top 10 down the stretch -- in spite of being a new system and major personnel changes mid-season. And we finished a respectable 10th in sacks.

Our offense showed promise until Grubb made us so 1 dimensional. Now Grubb is gone and we have an OC that wants to play a ball-possession, ground and pound type offense that compliments our stingy defense.

Yes, our OL is average at best, but we have good young tackles and -- with the exception of Bradford -- a handful of athletic IOL that may thrive in the wide zone scheme. I believe the FO knows what they have in Oluwatimi, so if he's not what they want we can pick up a FA C like Dalman. Now we have quality at T-C-T and that will make our guard play better even before we talk about adding more talent.

As for needing a hard-nosed CB, Riq doesn't play as physical as Spoon, but he's made to cover the X receiver. Blessed with incredible speed he's sloppy and still needs to hone his craft, but even in a 'down' year he's still top 5 getting picks.

There's a thousand threads on Geno already, so all of this should be familiar: Geno is a decent QB and decent QBs cost $40M these days. When we can find another decent QB for less, I'll be just as happy as the geNOs to bid him adieu. But cutting him just for the sake of cutting him would gut the morale of this team, raise a red flag to any player considering Seattle in FA, and shift our QB market from a buyers to a sellers. In short, we still have a window where we can bide our time to level up our QB if the opportunity presents itself. Cutting Geno just closes that window and puts us into desperation mode. Saving the $30M for FA or whatever will not hide the fact that we don't have a starting QB anymore.

I want to be optimistic, but I just don't see it.

I agree on both Grubb hindering the offense last year with his play calling and it being a positive move with our new OC, but I have serious concerns about our offensive line actually being able to accomplish what is necessary to have a run first offense. Add to that K9's durability issues..

I think our OL is one of the worst in the league. And then consider we need not 1, not 2 but 3 interior linemen and that's why I'm bear-ish on the OL.

I don't think Riq fits a Mike Macdonald defense, at all. I agree with your assessment about his speed, but he avoids contact and he takes way too many plays off. The Jets game last season when Love jumped his a$$ for dodging a tackle and allowing a first down when we needed a stop was it for me.

I like Geno, I really do, but he's about to become cost prohibitive for a QB of his ability and age. I think it would be wise to draft/trade/FA sign cost effective replacement(s) until we find the right guy.

I really don't like being a negative-nancy but I see the Hawks needing too many hard to find pieces in too many places to not qualify as being in a rebuild. If I'm wrong, and I actually hope I am, I'll be the first to admit it.

Great post. Yeah, it's a downer, but the results we've seen back it up. They need to shake things up and take some risks. The status quo hasn't worked for a decade.

Even if we did get that lucky (which is incredibly unlikely), Seahawks fans never want to pay what it costs to have elite players anyway.

I think it'd be a fantastic decision for them if the Seahawks were to accept it, just seems like it'd take a bit of the air of a huge celebration I'm sure many of their fans have been excited for from the second it was announced. They're arguably the most passionate fan base in the league; it would be really cool to see their reaction to their first round pick. Those moments of the Jets booing their picks is legendary in draft day lore. I guarantee the league wants them to have a first round pick. Not that I'm sympathetic to the higher-ups, just pointing out that everyone is aware that it's great drama.

Kinda like how we used to trade out of the first round every year. Draft night is one of my favorite nights of the year, and when I'm in anticipation mode and at the end we don't pick it's kinda like "well, maybe that was a good decision, but damn, I really wanted them to take someone". I have a lot of good memories tied to hanging out with friends and being at the edge of my seat while we were on the clock.

That's true and fair. Though I would point out usually when we traded out of the first round we weren't also receiving a top flight player in return...


At least not then anyway, we tended to give those picks up well before draft night lol.
