"The Seahawks can only guarantee success if fans use the approved ticketing partners."
Craigslist is a favorite accomplice among thieves.

Anyone who bought suspect season tickets are encouraged to contact the Seahawks ticket office to determine if they are legitimate, before they head for Sunday's game.

Yikes, that sucks. Pretty low of the jack hole doing that.

Hopefully he sold to a bunch of Niners fans. :stirthepot: ;)

Go Hawks.

About a month ago, I was looking for tickets for this game on Craigslist, and found some listed for slightly above face value. I figured it was too good to be true, but I thought I'd email the guy to get more information. He said he was legit and that he was a season ticket holder that couldn't make it to this particular game. I then asked him if I could meet him in person to buy the tickets, and he said sure, so long as I could pick them up in Spokane. I thought this was odd since his area code was from Idaho, but it wasn't out of the realm of possibility. I didn't know it was a scam for sure until he said that I could only pay him through Western Union, which of course is a huge red flag. I told him that I knew it was a scam and of course he never responded.

It's sad that there are people out there that do this stuff.

That is an interesting point. Do you know of any other tips for spotting scams? Might be good additions to this thread, "how to spot a scam."

I bought a pair of season tickets on craigslist for $900 each. My cousin exchanged several emails with the guy asking for all kinds of different info. So I decided maybe I should email him too and see what he says, since if he was scamming he'd probably have more than the pair to sell to several different people. But he emailed me back and told me he has a prospective buyer already and I'm 3rd in line if the others fall through.

I haven't used them yet but we gave a pair to my other cousins and they got in to both preseason games just fine

Are people really getting much better deals on craigslist? Using paypal for the transaction (using the credit card option) would protect the buyer if you have to go that route.

Hindsight is always 20/20, But when you noticed this to be a scam you should have notified the local authorities and handed the email over to them and let them see if they couldn't catch this guy instead of telling him you knew this was a scam... But people like this make it hard on the honest people out there.

Unfortunately without actual proof of a scam or without a crime being committed, reporting something like this won't do much. If I had actually gone through with the transaction and he never sent me tickets, then I certainly could have pursued it. The best I could do in this case was to flag his posts on Craigslist and call him out for being a sleazeball. He'll get caught eventually (hopefully).

As mentioned earlier in the thread, using PayPal will at least provide you with some protection. If a seller insists on using Western Union or other wire service, it's most likely a scam. It's the easiest way for the scammers to get your money without creating a paper trail. If possible, the best thing to do is to meet the seller in a public place and conducting your transaction that way. If distances makes meeting in person too difficult, then I would certainly use PayPal or other secured method of payment only. Hope that helps.

Here are some ways to do this "safe". And in regards to is it that much cheaper on craigslist - there is a lot more room to negotiate since stubhub and NFL exchange takes huge fees

1) Pay Paypal or in person
2) The tickets should get electronically transferred via the Seahawks page. The person that is selling goes there and sends you the tickets electronically. You then accept them, setup the account and get the tickets electronically. THERE IS NO FEE FOR THIS

3) IF you do this in person then have them bring a smartphone / laptop and complete the electronic transaction right there with you
4) If you do this via paypal don't pay for the tickets 3 months in advance and not get the electronic transfer done. Then you start loosing rights / ways to fight this. Pay paypal and the guy should transfer the tickets immediately electronically

Once they are in your account electronically you can print them out / resell them do whatever. You know you are not being scammed. The thing with papertickets is that the owner can re-print them any number of times and sell them to multiple people. Only the person with the online access to the latest version of tickets will get into the stadium

In person doesn't do anything if you meet a guy at a random cafe and he gives you papertickets and you give him cash. Where do you go from there?

Thanks for the ideas. Don't know when I'll be able to make a game but I'm absorbing everything I can so that when the opportunity arrives I will be ready to go :)

My fiance and I were almost had by the same exact dude a few weeks ago. When I told him the Western Union deal just made it a bit too shady for our tastes, his text response was "Oh ok dang."

Problem with this is that this could possibly lead to the same problem that the lady had in the article. She thought her tickets were legit and then she wanted different tickets and was going to sell her's on craigslist. She wasn't trying to scam someone although she would have unknowingly.

I see what you're saying but in this case, I think if they were scamming me, they would have done it right away with those preseason games

Yeah in your case I think you're safe, wasn't trying to imply you weren't. My bad.

No worries. Stuff like pisses me off though. That's why if I can, I deal with people on here or through PayPal

Scammers are lowlife scum..

Easiest way to avoid getting cheated out of your money for tickets? Watch the game at your favorite local bar. Or at home with friends on an HD tv. But nothing can beat the atmosphere of Century Link Field on game day, and being a part of the 12th man...

I found a few sports bars where passionate Seahawks fans go every game day. The atmosphere is extremely exciting. Sporty's up in Everett is intense (not an advertisement). I make the 25 minute drive up to Everett, just to go to this sports bar (Sporty's) when the Hawks are on the road or I can't make it to a game in person. They have a HUGE hi-def big screen and everyone there is friendly.

Being a season ticket holder for at least a game or two, I have learned the hard way that if your going to buy a ticket to the hawks, use the NFL EXCHANGE.. there is simply no other medium for buying and selling games..... as a seller you are absolved of any lame actions the people you gave or sold your tickets to, as a buyer you are guaranteed a legit ticket.
