“As we see COVID-19 rates rising in states across the U.S., and as we enter the winter months when risk will increase, we cannot take chances with the health and wellbeing of our community and forfeit the many sacrifices that have been made to slow the spread,” the 49er officials said in a statement.

The 49ers said the team welcomed the news from the state but “will continue to collaborate with local public health officials to implement a plan that ensures a plan that protects the health and wellness" of the team, its employees and the public.

Under the state rules, pro sports teams could have limited capacity at outdoor stadiums if they are in a county in the lowest two levels of the state's four-tiered model for reopening. Only fans who live within a 120-mile radius may buy tickets.

TBF, the final call isn't state of California (which actually could give Santa Clara the greenlight).

The final call is the County of Santa Clara just as it is for all counties.

Well we are back to whole care facilities being infected again, so those death rates will now rise, this is what must be understood, one hand infects the other.

We will also trail other states that are going into full winter mode.

That will change as we hit winter proper which is suppose to be wetter with more snow and rain this year.

Levi's sits right next to Great America and opening one opens questions as to why not the other.

Santa Clara County doesn't have the tools to commit to contact tracing any superspreader event that comes out of there or from Levi's--not even with all the native Silicon Valley resources within, no one's figured it out. Most of Big Tech is still working from home to avoid spreading the virus and most of their schools are still closed to avoid spreading the virus.

Santa Clara's DPH official is Dr. Sara Cody, who was the behind-the-scenes force in bringing about the inner-Bay SIP on 3/16, the first pact anywhere in the country, which everyone ended up agreeing with. The PR backlash of going against her is great and no one is trying that, not even city of Santa Clara whose fortune is tied directly into that stadium. And from the news articles above, LA county is not even close to the tiers that would allow the state to give that county the option.

If C-link opens first THEN they might reconsider it as those counties are very similar in many ways, including especially how they handled the virus and their educational profiles. But I don't see them doing so otherwise.

The bolded is absolutely correct. I work for one of the "Big Tech" companies. The last I heard from our CEO we are at home through mid 2021.

Santa Clara was one of the first red zones in the pandemic. They aren't interested in going back there.

Ya, saw that. To be honest, I dunno what to make of it. Not a fan of big money in politics.

All I CAN say is that what I've seen from the city has just been a string of ludicrous demands and comments that seem at times to just be TRYING to sour that relationship.

I think it stems from a group of people who didn't want the stadium to start and ran on that to get the last group removed from power.

The most ludicrous part to me is that there is a HUGE like 9 BILLION dollar project going in across the street from the stadium called Related Santa Clara. Joe Montana restaurant, condensed living, mall, theater...basically an entire downtown for Santa Clara that they haven't had since the 50's.

That project never remotely comes close to happening without that stadium.

Despite that, the city just finds every conceivable way to be a thorn in the side of the 49ers in that relationship. Its ludicrous.

I work for a massive hospital network. Cases have risen, hospitalizations for severe cases are nearly nonexistant. Most deaths are people who died with the virus, not from it.
