TE's being useless was a major factor for poor offense too

I know everyone is discussing Schotty's replacement and Pete pointing to fixing the run game (again) but been thinking about how poor the offense was and a dominant TE over the middle would have been so important to beating those 2 deep safety looks. A guy like Kelce (obviously hard to come by) who can eat you alive if you leave him in single coverage across the middle doesn't let both safeties sit back all game. Teams HAVE to account for him on the short drags, outs, slants, etc and cannot simply let a LB stay in single coverage. Safeties are forced to drop down and help or else he's eating up 8-12 yards a play.

They had what, 5 TE's on the roster in the playoffs? I think 6 at one point midseason. They got almost nothing out of any of them with some pretty significant $$$ invested. Running the ball to force one of the safties up will certainly help but getting a guy who can dominate the middle of the field consistently when the team gets in a rut is hugely important. Russ really didn't have a safety valve this year and they didn't have a plan to go get 5 yards consistently when needed. Maybe Dissly can become that guy but whether scheme or playcall or just not being open, TE's were terribly underused.

I know Zach Ertz is getting up there in age but it sounds like he's probably a cap casualty in Philly.

Think Russ was missing more of a Zach Miller type than a JG type. A reliable pass catcher on 3rd downs. That should have been Olsen, but wasn't.

If indeed Pete has not already studied Kittle at length and developed a firm grasp of how he is used we have a bigger problem than I have imagined.

What the heck happened with Parkinson anyway? It didn’t seem they gave him much of a chance at all to play. I know he was hurt for a lot of the year, but after coming back I felt he was basically never on the field.

Seriously, this seaon's group of tight ends seemed to be pretty good at blocking, getting open, and catching passes. But for some reason this skill set didn't seem to be sufficiently recognized by the offensive coodinator and/or the quarterback. Hopefully this will be addressed going forward.

Figures, the season in which Will Dissly was available, he & the rest of the TE's are barely used.

TE's seems to be a dying breed, like RB's, sucks because those are my 2 favorite positions on offense, I love the physicality a great TE/RB can bring.

Hopefully, a new OC will put more focus on TE's.

Again, studying what Kittle does is one thing. Finding a potentially generational talent to do it is another.
