Would he want to go to a playoff team as a back-up, or a lesser team and play? Seems like that could be a tougher choice than Schefter makes it sound. A good showing with the Raiders gets him a much bigger paycheck than sitting behind LJackson. ...just how I see it...

I heard someone making the case that Hendon Hooker might be the best kept secret of current NFL QB's. He's on the second year of a cheap four year rookie contract, he's being well groomed behind Goff by Ben Johnson, the hottest new HCing prospect now, and he's got the size, arm talent, and leadership qualities you might want. Yes, he's an older second year QB at 26 years old, but if he played the next six years for you he'd only be 32 years old.

Any thoughts about trading for this guy as a possible QBOTF? I really don't know.

The issue is, he's been roughly the 2nd worst starting QB in the NFL over the time he's been in the league. Getting playing time in a different dumpster fire is probably not going to be the situation where he's going to be able to turn around perceptions about his talent.

If he's going to turn things around, it's probably going to require a much better supporting cast than he'd be able to get in Vegas.

Experience is in demand in the NFL, even if that experience is in sucking.

Jones is going to be a guy where, everywhere he goes, fans will wonder why his OL is always so bad.

I predict future Stealer. They love taking a flier on former first round busts.

He doesn't suck, but he's certainly not starter level. Would be a solid backup somewhere. He's in a pretty good position really. Already getting his coin this year.
We live in a world where Daniel fricken Jones outplayed Geno in a game. Damn. Go figure the NFL.

Would it make sense for Jones to wait until the QB of a play-off team gets injured and then have a decent chance of starting for a play-off team? If for example the Bill's had to put Josh Allen on IR I am sure they would rather sign Jones as starter than play Hooker.

I wouldn't be suprised if you see a Baker-like comeback from Danny Dimes. He's a prime example of a prospect being put in a horrible situation to succeed.

Jones just made $46M in a year, on top of earnings of $26.13M from his rookie contract, so his financial security is guaranteed. He's already "playing with house money" in the sense that he's already had more of an NFL career and a lot more career earnings than you'd expect from a guy who was going to play football for Princeton, but then chose to be a walk-on at Duke.

I'd guess he'll chase titles now, even if that means being a backup.

More power to the guy. Get that coin while you can. I don't think he sucks as much as most people do. Will make for a good backup somewhere that go .500 for a 4 to 6 game stint, imo. Again, he outplayed Geno when they played here. He fought for every single yard vs. sliding before getting the first down. And yes, I'm still pissed about that play.

Chatting with a Giants fan earlier…

“Jones was just fine at tanking for us. I am waiting for the Eagles to sign Jones and bench Hurts week 18 to rest him and just have Jones run behind the Eagles oline and crush us. Saquon had his fun on us already. Give Jones the shot.”

“he's a perfect backup and 100% could have a Darnold resurgence in a better system/ His confidence is kaput. but he was never a top 10 pick. That was the problem. We took him at 6 and gave him expectations he'd never meet.”

That sounds about right

Signing with the Vikings.

Makes me wonder how much faith they have in JJ.

Even if JJ were active, this signing effectively makes him #3.

The Vikings are kicking the tires on Daniel Jones. Sam Darnold is a free agent after this year, so he most likely moves on to the highest bidder. Regardless of JJ McCarthy's knee situation, the Vikings are going to need a veteran on the roster. Jones isn't a bad choice.

I think this is a good move by him. Kevin O'Connell has a good track record with QB's. JJ won't play this year and Darnold won't be there next year. I don't think Jones was horrible. He never had a great group of talent around him. He had Saquon but nothing else. Now he has Nabers but nothing else. I don't want him in Seattle but he wasn't horrible IMO

Come on John Schneider, 12s on dot net have spoken, and over 60% voted not to extend Geno. Sign Jones already to make 12s happy, to give them HOPE, to have Jones as backup or to provide competition to Howell.

Do it already.
