LOB and definitely Sherman would never have survived this.

Looking back at the Seahawks it's been proven that good guys (2005 versus 2013 teams) can't win in the NFL. Some might consider this a step in the right direction and I may have agreed 15 years ago. I think getting into the enemies head is ingrained in our defense. Intimidation is part of the game.

I don’t like it. I understand trying to mitigate fights or what not but, these guys are amped up out there. The crowd digs it.

But, if the difference between getting a penalty (looking at the opposition) vs turning a bit and directing it at the crowd…I mean, it’s not a terribly hard thing to adjust but it becomes a judgement call rather than definitive officiating.

I’d rather the penalty call be removed or simply penalize ALL taunting and/or celebration and call it a day. The latter being the boring way….

Again, the rule sucks. But, when a players gets burnt, I don't need to see him celebrating like he actually did something. Reed got burnt, and he had to act like he did something. He didn't. The team gave up 500 plus yards on Defense, and yes they were very tired. These personal foul and taunting penalties can be fixed. Period.
Don't pump your chest out when you are being dominated, that's all. Emotion is great, when it is geared towards celebrating with teammates. IF you need to get up in someone's grill, at least do it after a win, OR if you actually did something on the field. But all you're doing is hurting the team. Lame rule, but still a rule.

The NFL is so ass backwards it's crazy. You can't celebrate after a pass breakup but after 1 guy INT's the ball, the entire defense can run down to an endzone, lie on the ground, take fake pictures, act like a bunch of idiots, and that is fine.

Everyone should take a lesson from Barry Sanders and just flip the ball to the ref.

And if they are being this ticky tack, why didn't the guy on the Titans get a taunting flag for spinning the ball and looking right at the Hawks defender?

I'll try to put this as non political or controversial as I can, the taunting rule is a direct result of the good ol' boy owner network not liking their players tarnish their beloved "brand." I'd also add there's a racial component, but I don't want to go there, so we'll leave it at old farts don't like young players acting up.

More importantly what THEY PERCEIVE as tarnishing their brand, because there's literally NO evidence that fans, coaches or players give a rat's ass about celebrating or taunting when there's already an unsportsmanlike conduct rule in place for egregious taunting. But apparently that's not good enough.

If you don't believe me, here's what John Mara, the dinosaur owner of the Giants thinks.

“Nobody wants to see a player taunting another player. I know I certainly don’t. I know the rest of the members of the competition committee feel the same, too.”

So here we are, only week two and this rule has already cost teams games, including us.

NOBODY asked for this rule, NOBODY wants this rule, and it's a rule that can be used to influence games if a Referee is so inclined.

At the end of the season, I'll be interested to see which teams get penalized the most with that call.

Whole thing is getting more ridiculous by the year. What's next? Probably something like:
- New rule in 2023: No glaring at an opposing player.
- New rule in 2025: No looking at an opposing player for more than 2 seconds.
- New rule in 2027: No even thinking negative thoughts about an opposing player.

You're not far off, that is what the owners want.....compliant robots.

Idk bout you guys, but my fondest childhood football memories were Billy White Shoes Johnson, Neon Deion high steppin', the Fun Bunch and the Icky Shuffle.

Maybe the NFL's demographics wouldn't continue to be older male fans if they didn't keep sucking all the fun out of the sport. It's why the #1 sport with kids now is the NBA. They allow personalities.

ALL OF THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Dear NFL: Please stop shooting yourself in the foot. Please restore at least part of the game to what it 'was' 5 years ago. That is all. Oh, one more thing: Your stupid as shit rules suck and make people stop watching games.

I'm going to take this opportunity to express why it is vastly important for head coaches to be micro managers as many have called Pete Carroll. In Pete's press conference he said they are practicing against the taunting rule... Turning around towards the crowd before they let out emotion. This is a reason why head coaches have to manage these situations all head coaches are micro managers. They have to manage every situation as well as delegate...

I didn't see it, but listening to 710 they said Julio spun the football in front of one of our players then looked at him. If so, why wasn't this called Taunting?

It wasn't accommodated by Marge Simpson hair, so he was excused.

I agree! Reed did get burnt and I was thinking "What a loser for acting out like he did something".
I believe the Ref thought the same thing and pulled his flag.
My other concern is what if this happens in a game later on in season when the upset is about to happen and a flag can be pulled with no question. Alot of things at steak, grudges, playoffs or spreads.
I think in this situation the Taunting Rule needs options, say ejection or the yards/new set of downs. I just don't like leaving it up to Refs alone.
Probably crazy but something needs to be done.

Chris, I don't think what you've been doing to wives is called "looking." I'm surprised you haven't been "penisalized" for it. :141847_bnono:

Awful rule. Just another rule they can use against any team to keep drives alive and change outcome of games. You would think the nfl would stop making rules like this. Just seems like they do all this on purpose to control the outcome of games.
