I'm not sure what's more disturbing. Tate actually visiting Detroit increasing the chance of him leaving or actually reading a defense of Charlie Whitehurt in this thread :).

Seriously though with Tate making visits I have a sinking feeling he's gone. I just hope that a big part of him would like to stay and he'll give the Hawks a chance to match or come close to any offer.

We all know that the Hawks cannot end up keeping everyone of this core of young players. Let's go over the list:

Wilson
Baldwin
Willson
Okung
Unger
Kearse
Wagner
KJ WRight
Malcom Smith
Irvin
Maxwell
Sherm
Earl
Kam

And I know i'm missing like 4-5 players. Now let me ask you, who on this list would you give up in order to keep Tate? I think MAYBE Willson or Unger. Those are the only two on this list that i would MAYBE give up, and even those two i'm not sure.

You don't want to keep Tate and lose one of the above, just because of the circumstance that Tate's contract came up before those other, BETTER and more important players.

I think Tate is gone. The Hawks did not even offer a contract to him. I think the Hawks do not even want Tate back because he doesn't fit in their long term plans. I think $4m per year is the highest the Hawks will go.

Ultimately the reality there has been silence surrounding Tate raises the possibility that Detroit hasn't sold GT or that Tate is still in play for the Hawks

JS said the Hawk would compete for the guys they wanted to keep. He also said the Hawks wanted to keep Tate.

This is an interesting situation b/c some serious direction offensively turned upon this player who is valuable on several levels.

For some reason having a hard time believing the QB analysis from a guy that still has Charlie Whitehurst as his avatar.

And lol at Wilson for Stafford straight up.
Whitehurst was a stud who wasn't given a fair shot. Our front office made a brilliant move trading for him, then instead of naming him the starter right away and building around him like they should have, they undermined his confidence with their ridiculous infatuation with Tarvaris Jackson.

I would absolutely trade Wilson for Stafford. Easily. That's nothing against Wilson, who is legitimately great.

The fact that Tate has not signed does not mean the Hawks did not offer a contract, and I would be shocked if they hadn't, as not doing so really wouldn't make any sense. I'm also curious... you're not sure you would keep Tate over Willson? Or Kearse? I mean honestly, really? It's easy to convince yourself you didn't want someone once they leave, or that you won't care if they go when it seems they might, but let's not be silly. Both of those players had nice years as roleplayers for us, but Tate has played a key role in several different ways on this offense, and has only gotten better every year. Kearse and Willson may never amount to anywhere near the productivity that Golden has already provided.

All the remainder of those players, I can see your argument, although personally I'd much rather keep Golden than Irvin, as well. I'd consider Golden instead of Malcolm, as well, although I would not want to lose both and Irvin.

As others have pointed out, the numbers Golden has put up may not seem like a ton overall, but given the offense he's in, his relationship with Russell, his punt returning, and his consistent improvement year to year, I think it'd be silly not to keep him if at all possible. He'll only get better opposite Percy (if that whole thing works out next year), as well.

My my there are a lot of negative Nancy characters around here.

Bennett was gone too and the same negative folks all said we needed to move on.

The game is won at the end of the game.

Love and appreciate what Golden has done here. He has had some amazing games and big catches for this team. He was a big part of our success on offense.

With that said, he's VERY replaceable. I'd rather have Baldwin in an either/or scenario, because I think ADB is truly the better receiver.

I'll bank on a healthy Percy Harvin, a more polished and angry Baldwin, and a young riser in Jermaine Kearse, coupled with possibly a couple of rookie WR's that will be very good as soon as they get here. I think the plan is to let Tate walk and find his replacement in one of the early rounds of the draft, and that's a good plan.

Welcome to a new era as Seahawks fans -- let the very good walk, and lock up the perennial Pro Bowlers and All-Pros.

Best of luck to Tate if he takes his talents elsewhere next season. I'll truly miss him and his sure hands (one of the lowest drop rates in the league).

The Super Bowl was over when the spike sailed over Peyton's head, or at the very latest when Chancellor blew up Demaryius Thomas on their next play.

I get it, though... Tate could very well be back, but I don't really see anyone being overly negative here. It's free agency, and emotions will run high because we want to keep this team together as much as possible, but the facts are some very, very good players are going to be let go and it will be a calculated decision by the front office.

Notes:

Tate follows 4 Lions players on twitter. Fauria, Johnson, Durham and Stafford.

I'd rather keep Tate over a good deal of those players, surely we've proven that finding receivers is one of the more difficult things to do in the NFL, in 2012 we opened the roster with Braylon Edwards, Charly Martin and Ben Obamanu on our opening day active roster. All three are out of the league now. We've drafted guys like Kris Durham and Chris Harper with no success. Meanwhile we've brought in guys like Rice (released) and harvin (Just 3 games last year, and failed to finish 2 of them), so it's not as if we've had a great. Tate is our only drafted receiver that has actually been productive, and so often has made clutch catches that helped us win games. He's not a guy that's a dime a dozen in the league. His receiving yardage last year is only 69 less than Harvin's best season (in the least pass-friendly offense in the league).

Tate will be back next year, I have no doubt about it.

Schefter mentioned the Hawks want Tate, and did put forth an offer. The Hawks have a number, and I suspect they are playing it carefully to make sure they can pay DB if a team comes forward willing to give up picks and dollars. Need to keep one, ideally both.
I want Tate to stay, and there were games won this season because Tate made some huge plays. People stating his production in the playoffs equate Tate is easily replaced, or not important this season is an opinion I totally disagree with and is easy to refute.

Without Tate we possibly lose to the bucs and the rams, finish 11-5 and have to go on the road and play am extra playoff game.

With Harvin for the entire season we possibly go 16-0 and win the super bowl. Do you see what I did there?

Keep hearing that Detroit is offering 6.5, and the Hawks are offering 5 mil. Hopefully the Hawks don't go over 5. Maybe a better guarantee will help keep him around.

If Tate can get 6.5 or more, then best wishes to him. Hopefully playing opposite Johnson will be a great thing for him.

If Sid still isn't getting offers, maybe we bring him back since we have a hole to fill.

If they give Tate 6.5, then I would assume he would take it. No way we should pay him that.

I love the guy. He has provided me with some very memorable moments.

I have been stalking various Lions forums and the "rumor" I saw was that Golden is demanding 7Mil. If that rumor is true and a team pays that - it was nice knowing ya Tate. (((I HATE the salary cap)))
