Whitehurst was a stud who wasn't given a fair shot...they undermined his confidence with their ridiculous infatuation with Tarvaris Jackson.

:13: Same exact reason Russell Wilson never succeeded here.

Stafford: 61 career games. 73 INTs. 109 TDs.

If the Lions pay big enough, I won't blame Golden for swapping the Emerald City for Post-Apocalyptic Town. He won't ever reach a SB again, but he'll have the cash to ease his pain.

you forgot Stafford's life time QB rating of 83 and completion # of 59 both awful

Thats like 1.5 higher qb rating than Luck and 2 whole completion % :D

4M a year is life-changing for you. 7M a year, invested right, is life-changing for your kids and grandkids too.

$4 million a year over 5 years equates to 400 years worth of $50,000 salaries. For averaged sized families, your parents, kids and grand kids would never have to work again, if thats what you valued over infinity pools, houses with more rooms than you could every use, and 5 lambos. It should be noted that most kids that grow up never having to work end up as horrible people.

Lets stop acting like these players are Oliver f***ing Twist.

I suppose its tempting if you dont value playing in the playoffs and only want a little more money. The pats I can see sure, but the lions? Lions HAVE to be one of the worst Franchises to play for right? I mean, they have 1 entire playoff win since the 60s..that is just downright pathetic.
Quick, answer this question: What do the vast majority of NFL players want to get to the playoffs for?

Oh, right; to get a ring. :)

Right, but the extra three mil a year, invested properly...he'll be able to take care of generations of family he won't even meet because he'll be dead by then.

I need to look up a baseline interest rate that Tate would get for a simple investment and see the difference in what he can make off of an extra 15M over that five years.

And it is his right to pursue that extra money and ensure that his grand kids grow up to be horrible people. And it is my right to root against players that leave the team.

If Caldwell is going to run it instead of chuck it, why is he trying to load up on more receivers ??

If Tate bites, he'll just be another guy who used to be here instead of there.

Why not go for another QB ? Why not go for Charlie Whiterat ? All he needs is a chance.

I mean, you can root for whoever you want based on whatever criteria you want, brah. I think you're having that discussion with yourself.

When Tate's agent comes back and tells John Schneider that he's at 5 for 30 with Detroit, 16 guaranteed - JS will come back and say let's go 6 for 30, 12.5 guaranteed. And by the way, no state income tax. Our deal is better, and after year 3 Golden's gonna have to earn his roster spot to get that last 17.5.

We all know that the big contract never runs to fruition - Jared Allen was one of the few exceptions. It's all about the guaranteed number - that's why we have Bennett back in the locker room. Tate gets his nut and gets to stay here and win another with Russell and crew.

Maybe I'm delusional, but I still don't really see Golden leaving unless there is a very sizable difference in money. He's got a good thing going with Russell, in a city he seems to love, on a team that's winning. I wouldn't pass up multiple millions of dollars per year difference if I were him, but if the money is reasonably close, I suspect he'll stay. And I suspect PC/JS will do what they can to match a reasonable offer.

I will say this, I'll eat my crow for the whole bennett stuff about money, but nothin pisses me off more when a player blows smoke up everyone's a$$ about hometown discounts. Granted I didn't expect him to take one, but still. "Shrug" I'll give bennett props he was honest.

In other words, you learned nothing.

Man it would suck to lose Golden. Dude's so versatile and can lineup everywhere and is a great punt returner. This is the time when I hate the "business" side of football. Hopefully he comes back home.

If I was Tate, I would be pretty easily swayed by Detroit.

Think about it. In Seattle, he will always be "pedestrian". This is a run first team. that is not changing, 70 catches in Seattle is like some kind of holy grail. In Detroit? He could see 120 targets easy. (I don't buy the I want to run BS from Caldwell. That team is built to pass on all levels.) He won't have to absorb probably a single double team in Detroit.

Rings vs money and probowls.

Cha Ching.

Are you the type who tries to jinx an outcome by pessimistically predicting the result you don't want to see? I think you are.

And it's working so far. Awesome.
Well, I expect the worst, and prepare for the worst. Motto to live by.

I'm not sure what's more disturbing. Tate actually visiting Detroit increasing the chance of him leaving or actually reading a defense of Charlie Whitehurt in this thread :).

Seriously though with Tate making visits I have a sinking feeling he's gone. I just hope that a big part of him would like to stay and he'll give the Hawks a chance to match or come close to any offer.

My gut feeling on Tate is he knows he's not going to be "valued" the same anywhere else - not from a contract point of view, but for how the team will use him. I think Detroit might be the most likely stop with regards to how he'll be used most effectively. Detroit loved Burleson - who incidentally is quite similar and no longer with the Lions (IIRC).

I can see Tate settling for a one year "prove it" deal in a pass heavy offense to try and up his value.

Im sure Red Bryant thought the same thing when he chose us over the Patriots...

I wouldn't blame Tate or any player one bit if they went to the team that gave them the better deal financially regardless of how crappy the team was, teams wont hesitate to cut a player no matter how much they love him, I don't see why players shouldn't do the same.

It would have to a guaranteed high volume passing team for a receiver to want to do a 1 year prove it deal.

The position relies heavily on a teams philosophy, and the quality of the QB. Tate could lose potential millions on a high risk deal like that.

Stafford slings it all over the field and Tate wouldn't see a #1 CB or safety help the entire year. Honestly, it sounds like a pretty good fit.

The Lions, however, are pumping a ton of money into Megatron, Stafford, and Suh already. Handing a fat deal to a WR2 doesn't seem like the best use of resources. But, ya know, Lions...
