Should have run through the catch. Slowed down before it got there. Should have been pretty easy.

This is what I thought when watching it as well. Saw him slowing down and wondered if Wilson underthrew it, then it goes over his head. I think Wilson threw that ball perfectly and if Williams has kept his clip it would have been an easy touchdown.

That would have been an amazing catch if he held on to it. That was probably only a sure catch for fitzgerald.

It hit him right in the hands and he lost just going to the ground. He should have caught it for sure.

Williams turned his head early and kept it turned to track the ball, which slowed him down. Still had a chance at a very tough catch after that, but couldn't hold on.

I agree. He had to almost dive for it which made it a difficult catch but had he kept running it would have dropped to him in stride. Still like his ability to get open deep though! Williams and Kearse are really going to help the team this year.

Standards on this thread are ridiculous. Catchable, yes. Should have caught, no. Fully laid out, would have been a spectacular catch. Kearse's was easier. I hope the coaches aren't so critical because getting separation deep is a much rarer trait than missing one spectacular catch out of 6 is bad. No one is going to catch every single difficult deep ball.

Fell right into his hands. It was absolutely catchable. Nearly every single catch he made in the preseason was more difficult.
That's not always true.
Stretched out like he was as he got the pass in his hands, and then a jarred landing on the ground like that, will usually shake out an incomplete, EVEN for Veteran Receivers.
It would have been a sensational catch for ANYONE that would have been lucky enough to haul it into their chest.
There's no blame for the incompletion IMHO.

He dropped it. I guess we should just cut him now. Baldwin dropped the game winning TD pass last year in AZ in the opener too. What's the point ? He will catch most of those

Williams did his job. He got behind the defense. Throwing accurate deep bombs is hard to do even for good QBs, but had Wilson thrown it 2 feet less, it's an easy TD. The very next pass, he nailed the distance accuracy and it WAS a TD on the 2nd try, just to a different target. I honestly wonder if that was a factor in the 2nd play call.

As far as the drop, I never expect plays like those to be caught. Spectacular catches are considered spectacular for a reason. I think I expect an average WR to come down with that pass maybe 30-40% of the time. We are spoiled rotten by Rice and Tate who seem to catch those every single time. That is rare catching talent.

On that note, if both Rice and Tate are gone next season I will be pretty pissed off.

Glad someone else said it. I thought he slowed up as well and would not have had to dive had he not.

With that being the first real action where both Williams and Wilson were playing together, I'm willing to cut the kid some slack. I'm gonna go with Kip here and stay with the whole "the long ball is always a low percentage pass" option. Even the best don't make all of the deep throws or catches.

Keep in mind that Russell Wilson really hasn't had a lot of in game experience with Williams. It takes time for a QB to get to know his receivers (how fast they can run on a go route, knowing his moves, his tendencies, etc.) That doesn't just come overnight. Remember back to Matt Hasselbeck and the chemistry he had with Darrell Jackson. Remember how how clutch that combination was, as Hasselbeck seemed to almost "know" where Jackson was going to be ... and vice versa, Jackson always seemed to "know" where he had to be on the field and when to be there? He seemed to always be there to make those clutch catches when they counted in big down situations. Well that didn't just appear out of nowhere. It's because outside of practice, Hasselbeck and Jackson used to work out in parks and playgrounds for hours during the summer, getting that timing down and getting to know one another. And still, those guys had to do it in real games over and over again before things started to click. That stuff takes time, which I have absolutely no doubt will happen if Stephen Williams sticks around (and at this point I have no reason to think otherwise) ... and when it happens, WHOOO! the Seahawks will have a very impressive weapon.

Arizona fans says this guy is a monster in preseason for them but he disappears and is a non factor when it counts in the regular season. Hope history doesn't repeat itself with him.

I watched both throws over and over and you honestly can't fault Wilson for the Williams drop. He throws that ball a few feet shorter and the DB has a shot at it. Williams made the catch, but the ground stepped in and ruined what would have been a stellar catch. There will be others! And props to Chop Chop for making it count the next play!
