Harper is a lot more replaceable than any of the other options.

PS or ST but you don't remove guys like Baldwin that are both known quantities AND young emerging players for someone that hasn't done a damn thing in a real game and has barely produced in the fake ones.

Harper has good measurables but until those turn into real world results it is crazy/insane to suggest we remove some of our depth for someone that might not even be able to play in the league in a few years.

At this point, unless we keep the extra receiver over another position, I can't see Harper making it on the 53. He has practice squad written all over him. He's gotten little action, late in the games, and has not yet done anything to impress or make me think he deserves a roster spot over someone else. I really, really liked the pick during the draft, but so far he's a ton of potential, but that's all he is. I'm really, really hoping to see him get some quality action with some of the starters, or at least the second stringers this week.

Williams over Harper. If Harper gets through to the PS then great. If not, then it's tough luck. We're at the point in this franchise where you can't base your roster decisions on fear of losing someone on the practice squad or agonizing over a sunk cost in draft capital. We're too good to worry about Harper. He had a chance to step up, and hasn't. His loss, not ours.

So many forget the season when we had Ruvell Martin,Deion Branch,Brandon Stokley,Mike Williams,Golden Tate,Ben Obomanu,Deon Butler,Julius Jones,Michael Robinson,Charlie Whitehurst,Matt Hasselbeck,Leon Washington,Justin Forsett,Marshawn Lynch,John Carlson,Chris Baker,Cameron Morrah. As our offensive weapons, now were saying dump a guy that is just coming into his own becasue we have what we think is depth and can be easily replaced some say. Year 2010.

We can go back farther to 2009 ,Julius Jones , Justin Forsett Edgerrin James , Matt Hasselbeck , Seneca Wallace , Louis Rankin, Justin Griffith ,Nate Burleson ,Deion Branch , T.J. Houshmandzadeh , John Carlson , Deon Butler , Owen Schmitt , Ben Obomanu , John Owens , Cameron Morrah .

I'm not so ready to dump guys that have shown something in games when were in the window and they are still getting better versus potential at this juncture of our teams attempt to go all the way.

Damn, I forgot Edge was a Seahawk. And Jerry Rice too!

Am I the only guy who thinks back on that and says, "Were they really on this team??"

Where would we be if we were not patient with Tate?

When you are talking about a 5th or 6 th wr I would prefer that guy be Harper over a 27 year old wr who has done nothing in the nfl to this point. You always need to develop guys, develop Harper.

I think it's important to note that Pete and John aren't slaves to their egos and will cut a 4th round pick if somebody else outplays the guy. Remember EJ Henderson (a 5th rounder)? If Williams is making the plays when given the opportunity and Harper is not, then what is there to discuss?

I like Harper, but at the moment he appears to be a candidate for the PS.

Williams has a few years nfl experience.....isn't it expected he would have an advantage? Players develop. We can certainly cut all our youth for middle of the road vets. So Ruskillian of you all. :th2thumbs:

I don't think the Hawks were expecting Williams and Kearse to emerge this season. Harper is going to be a tough decision. With the 49ers struggling at receiver it's going to be tough to see any of these guys playing for them this season and I know that JS/PC don't want to do anything to improve the 9er cause.

I hope Stephen Williams has greater success with his special teams opportunities tonight.

Being paired up with Russell Wilson would also be a plus.

I really like both of these two players...Williams showed some nice deep catches in this last preseason game. I still like Harper too. Dang it...decisions, decisions. I guess we will have to watch more preseason games to see which of the young WRs make the team.

right now for WR's I think it will be...

Rice
Tate
Baldwin
Kearse (looks solid so far)
Williams (so far, he looks like he makes it)
Harper (still hoping he shows his talent and makes it)

and then when Harvin comes back I have no idea what happens to the WR group (other than they get even better)

Pretty much exactly what I expect. When Harvin comes back we'll have 4 preseason games plus probably 10+ regular season games to evaluate who stays. If Harper is kept inactive for a few of those he's still practice squad eligible (as long as he's active for less than 9 games, I'm not sure if that means 9 or less or 8 or less...)
This is what I'd like to see. Let the Harvin thing work itself out later.

I need to see Stephen Williams against the 1s before I make any kind of comment on this. If he's not particularly great against a 'real' NFL D, then I'd rather have Seattle develop Harper.

Kearse has been awesome. I see some tough cuts coming. How many wideouts do we keep?

We can keep one or two that rotate from the practice squad do to injuries.

IMO Kearse is making the active roster. I still lean toward 5 wide receivers ..... unless they identify a 6th receiver special teams can not live without.

Right, because keeping a draft pick who's shown nothing instead of a still-young player who has is a brilliant idea. What a silly thing to say.

You're aware Harper can still develop on the PS, right?

Wouldn't be shocked at all if that's the case tonight. I think Kearse is a lock now and the way Pete thinks hes probably going to give Williams a lot of early run in place of Rice.

I agree, daddio. He needs to show against the ones.

Btw - who is our special teams coach? That guy needs some love!

Could we purposly not be playing Harper full well knowing we are hoping he makes it to the PS. It they put him out with the 1's and he excelle's then we are screwed for sure. Williams had the upper hand, a good showing tonight against GB's secondary could guarentee him a roster spot. Why let the rest fo the league even see Harper if you want to keep him. Harper was suppose to be our protection if we loses Tate to FA next year.

Open competition stuff does not work if you don't reward the player who wins the competition.

So Far Williams is winning the competition
