Need to clean it up. Between Williams and Shenault we basically spotted them 2 scores. Is it Jay Harbaugh the ST coach?

They won't fire Harbaugh. Apparently, there's some rule in place by the cosmos that a Harbaugh always has to be prominently in my life for some reason.
He’s McDonald’s guy so he’s safe

Special teams hasn't been good this season. Blocked FGs, returning kicks when they should not (that's coachable), ball security (also coachable). And poor returns coverage. Today was horrendous.

It's been pretty marginal most of the season. Hopefully today was the season low and it gets a little better.

This

Today was as bad as it could possibly get, but it seems like every game there's at least one kickoff return against us that looks on the verge of going all the way. Our kick coverage has been very poor to put it mildly, and our return game has been less than stellar to say the least.

If I was MM, I'd be giving Harbaugh his walking papers after this performance. But it sounds like his job is safe, at least for the time being. What kind of message does that send to the rest of the team? How can they respect a coach who's as bad as he is at his job?

At some point the head coach needs to recognize what's going on out there and do something about. Our kick return coverage needs some work. Quit having Meyers kick it just short of the goal line, which basically forces the other team to return it. Pull your ST coach and your kicker aside and tell them no more returns, period. Kick it out of the back of the end zone for the rest of the game, and we'll work on kick coverage next week.

Laviska's first game back, and he was "over trying" to make something happen.
On both fumbles, he looked down the field before he secured the ball.
I've seen DK do that a couple of times this year, once today.
On the Williams fumble, that was just a really good punch by the Jets player.
The return TD by the Jets, undisciplined play, cover guys got out of their lanes. Probably chasing glory, wanting to get the tackle.
Both times Jets returner went to his left, so they saw something on film... Like players not staying in their lanes.

Also this is 100% going to sound like an excuse but in willing to be the cold weather had an impact on the ball, how full/not full/grip etc. cold weather can and will **** with shit we don’t think about. And Shenault, I’m not gunna start bitching about him. Preseason until now he’s been solid and imo the better choice over Williams. And I also agree with Ivotuk his first game back and he was definitely focused downfield not at the ball.

I remember an article from years ago about the combination of cold weather and an early start for wreaks havoc on the West Coast away team's Special Teams play. Between the body not being used to playing at that time and standing around to wait for your turn to go on the field to the cold of the ball, there is something about Special Teams play for West Coast teams going East when it is cold. Offense and Defense don't suffer nearly as much, statistically. I will try to find it and link to it if possible.

I was there yesterday and it was very very cold. I also used to play football and typically the biggest culprit for fumbles during cold weather games (outside of rain or snow) is the players wearing long sleeve shirts, which makes it for a much more slippery contact point instead of a bare arm. I know from experience because it happened to me on consecutive plays with wristbands and I took them off right after that to never wear them again.

Players are just as much at fault. Gotta' hold on the damn ball. That being said, I wouldn't be sad if they moved on from him.

Exactly, the idea that player erros arent on coaching is misplaced. Coaching drilling, and teaching emphasis on the soecifics of a task make all the difference.

They are pros, and they are human. Players and coaches.
