I saw that and wondered if it cut the guy's head.

It didn't seem to, which is amazing. Those talons are super sharp and there isn't any padding on the head.

I think I'd actually pay a few bucks to have Taima put a few scratches on my head. That would be better than any Seahawks tattoo.

See this scar? The real effing "Seahawk*" did this to me!

*before any amateur ornithologists pipe up, I realize there's no such thing as a Seahawk. Some say a Seahawk is an Osprey, I think it's more like a Steller's Sea Eagle. As for the mascot bird, Taima is an Augur Hawk.

The Seattle Seahawk might as well be the Thunderbird. A "Seahawk" is, in fact, one of the names for an Osprey, but our Mascott is a beautifully colored Red Tail. In following the Totem style, our Seahawk could be the legendary deity that fought Great Orca where the battle caused our last major tsunami.

I'm a dork for the local ties to our team....so sue me. I first saw the feathers that we now use when I was just a very young child. Both on the Nisqually Res and sitting and listening to Lalooska tell stories out by Merwin.

That would be pretty epic...

All I'm sayin' is, Taima's going to be buying this guy some serious swag from this week's game check!

Taima is an Augur hawk ( or buzzard). Native to Africa. It was in an article a year ago or so.

Heh, I stand corrected. I could have swore I read last year that it was a Red Tail, but this is even more interesting. Reason why?

Tanzania! The Wiki on these birds shows a picture of one much like ours actually IN Tanzania.

Augur looks more like an osprey/Seahawk than a redtail does. I'm not an expert on raptors or falconry, but I know the permitting is way easier on more common species than others. Generally speaking, ospreys do not do well in "falconry".

That's b/c Osprey's are not easily trained and have a very nasty aggressive disposition. Bald Eagles are afraid of them even though the Osprey is smaller the Osprey is very territorial and aggressively protects it's hunting area. Like the team's D.

Wonder why the bird did that at the game I'm wondering if there was something that happened that frightened it?

Maybe the helicopters that flew over pre game? The TV audience didn't get to see the festivities, but my coworkers that attended the game took photos of the choppers flying over and the 100 yard long American flag.

That happened in 133 (best section in the stadium, obviously) just a couple of rows behind me.

That's the back of my head in the shot, with the faded blue ball cap and the Super Bowl scarf peeking out of the collar.

Nah, it happened during the middle of warm-ups. At first I was worried he was going to poop in someone's beer.

Taima also had an incident at the Super Bowl where he took off early leading the team onto the field and landed on a speaker.
