Shead should be fully recovered from that ACL injury that interrupted his career. He is returning full circle to the best place there is to compete.

He established himself first as a special teams standout and versatile backup who could play cornerback and both safety positions, then became a full-time starter in 2016 at right cornerback.

Also we have a lot of young guys and Shead knows our defense, Lawyer Milloy type roll for him with our young players.

Always liked the kid. Has some skills. Sounds like a decent insurance plan for the D-backs. Not expecting all-star stuff, may not even make the 53, but he'll be motivated to do well to prove himself to the league. If we don't keep him, I'd expect him to show up somewhere.

More indication that the Hawks have concerns with the defense . They don't have much time left to assemble a defense that can hold their own on game day . Aug. 31 is just around the corner .

The rest of the defensive backfield save for McDougald is not very experience and Shead has been to the rodeo. I believe your prediction could be true but if nothing else he will at least force the young guys to be on their toes. He will be able to show by example how to practice and be a professional, all in all he's not terrible as a player either.

I'm concerned what this says about a few of the young guys that are here though.

Shead is the perfect example of a player that everyone expects to be great because of his combine stats. There's more to football than 40-times, three-cone drills, etc.

That being said, anyone can reinvent themselves. Best of luck to him.

“A year ago when we worked him out he just wasn’t all, in my opinion knowing him as a young man growing up, no he wasn’t fully back to the standards that we would expect and we couldn’t come to an agreement then. He came back out here and I’ve been hearing and I’ve seen clips and all kinds of stuff. He did a little bit of a campaign for me to understand what he’s capable of doing. He came out here on the field the other day and he looked great, he looked as good as he’s ever looked. Quick and strong and fit and in shape. I am not too worried about the offense this season ...but the defense from the trenches back seems unraveled. IMO
