ESPN's Adam Schefter doesn't expect free agent FS Dashon Goldson to re-sign with the 49ers.
"Goldson's going to be gone," tweeted Schefter. The 49ers refused to franchise tag Goldson for the second straight year, and he is seeking $8 million annually. Keeping him is thought to be a priority for San Francisco, but he may be too rich for their tastes. The 49ers could use the No. 34 pick they got from the Chiefs to find Goldson's replacement in what appears to be a strong safety class.

FWIW, Goldson clocked a 4.65 at his combine. Chancellor had a 4.62. I could see Seattle going a new direction at SS if the right opportunity presented itself (Mark Barron last year), but I doubt it would be for Goldson.

Was about to post as to whether you think Seattle would draft Vaccaro if he fell to 25 after you saying Barron was a high target last year, now I can just ask here. Read an article about how good he is at man coverage for a S and that he could play a similar role to Woodson covering the slot in the nickel. Could this work in Seattle? What direction changes do you foresee at that position?

Vaccaro ran a 4.63, so I think it would be unlikely.

Something that donned on me just now- the Seahawks might have rated Mark Barron so highly last year because they had LB so high on their priority list and saw Chancellor as an option there. I'm expecting Seattle to draft a LB this year, but I'm not expecting it to be super high on their priority list. The language Carroll has used suggests that they'll look for competition at LB but his tone sounded content with what he called "the USC backup crew": Malcolm Smith, Mike Morgan, and Allen Bradford.

If the priority at LB really is lower this year, then I doubt they'd consider the safety-Chancellor-switch idea again. Especially if that safety has essentially the same speed that Chancellor does. The reason they entertained Barron in round one is because it was essentially the same as drafting a linebacker, and linebacker was a top round priority that year. I don't think that priority will be the case this year, and if there was a Mark Barron this year, I'm not sure they'd take him with their current offseason priorities.
