I am not a salary cap guy by any means but I know there are a few on here that are. How do we look this year in terms of salary cap after the draft and UDFA signing period? If we have space, can we restructure some contracts to use any remaining available and free up money for the future? Do we have enough to either sign some guys or make a trade from someone who can benefit us the next couple years?

I was thinking the one year extention for Mr Cross would have halved the available but then duh....it's not till next year. 34 million is good for alot of things.

I'm no expert. But, I recognize the existing NFL talent market. And, recognize that 32 organizations compete for that talent. Talent markets, like all markets, go thru cycles. The Seahawks are second only to the 49ers in dead cap moneys being written off in 2025 at $67,430,001. I think of 2025 as a Seahawks cap reset year. They have cleared a lot of cap that had been pushed into future years. It's off the books now in this moment of their team salary cap cycle.

There will be tough extension and resign choices with the 2022 rookie class. But, the 2025 season will help sort all of that out. Existing unused cap space is credited and rolls over into the following year.

Considering that the Seahawks are now in the second year of team make over and have cleaned up their cap, they are in good shape.

Dead cap is not something to be feared. When the cap increases year on year accounting for players' salaries later on is generally a plus.

You can't roll it over. What you have on the books is what you have. When I hear roll it over my first thought is it adds to the available number which it does not. We are more than fine next year with cap, currently at $85 million under but there may be extensions to factor in, cap will likely go up again, etc. We are in some of the best cap shape for a couple years of all teams.

It's kind of all up to interpretation. But to answer the question, to put it plainly if we signed a bunch of 1 year deals or we did nothing, it's the exact same as next year. It only matters what (or who) is on the books next year.
