Poor Lions. They aren't as consistently bad as their record would indicate. What is consistent is that they don't close, and that's often assisted by the refs and/or their own coaches. Why they didn't even try to convert at least a couple 4ds in the ez against GB is a mystery.

They're the latest to discover that the Patriots Way doesn't translate outside of Foxboro. And they tried. They brought in Patricia and five ex-Pats players including Amendola. It still didn't work because you need all those pieces, and Patricia, like McDaniels (DEN) and Mangini (CLE) are just seen as uptight drillmasters drilling grown men like they're youths at a military school. Even SF in their cellar years recognized this and bounced both. The only reason they put up with the Patriot Way in NE is that they're always winning and the culture is now a generation old.

Evan's numbers appear to be a little off ..... as I review it.

2019 ..... $1,601,437 .... prorated salary left outstanding

2020 ..... $5,200,000

2021 ..... $5,550,000

OTC lists Diggs 2019 analytic valuation at $3,661,000

Detroit Lions will take a dead cap hit of $3,583,334 (last 2 years of prorated signing bonus) in 2020.

The story line from the Detroit Free Press .... [tweet]https://twitter.com/davebirkett/status/1186757209524441089[/tweet]

Gonna reserve judgment on this one. He is starting to sound like a fan favorite more than an actual cornerstone player. Could thrive under Pete, though.

Last year he was around 80 overall I believe, sounds like he had a couple lapses in run defense this year. Honestly, anyone who can prevent 50 yard bombs because they stand flat footed like TT has done will be an upgrade.

Is that better than TT?

If it is, bring him on :)

Hard to blame them, Diggs was one of their best players on defense and very popular in the locker room..........and hey, I can't even imagine being a Lions fan.

I mean, we complain about the dark times here, but it pales in comparison to what Lion fans have been through. ONE playoff win since 1957.

*cold shiver*
Fire Pete
Does put things in perspective. We are losing our junk at a 5-2 record.

Which means absolutely nothing when you consider 2 10-win teams will likely miss the playoffs from the NFC this season.

Probably seems that way since there are seemingly a handful of teams that appear to be poised to reach those heights, but IMO that may be the very reason it doesnt happen.

Lots of these 5-2/4-3/6-1 Teams are going to beat up on each other down the sttretch, leaving a slew of 9-7/8-8 in it's wake.

10 wins is probably safe. Same as it always is.

For reference, Germain Ifedi is holding at 52.8 on the season, and Jaron Brown at 59.4.

Where they intend to play him will say a lot about how they feel about our safeties. He looks like a slot corner in our defense.

These grades are subjective, one year Griffin is graded as 139th CB now I would bet he is much higher, how the hell can a guy be 139th I didn't think there were that many active at one time, lots can influence these grades in a secondary.

There is no nationally funded standards board for scouting. Scouting grades vary. Publisher's grades and rankings are a unique to their specific organization. Like grading variations among teams, there is no universal standard.

My own sense is that publisher grades can have an influence on contract negotiations and outcomes. So team management might explore trading away a player that they feel is overpaid relative to a published grade. While others might want to explore acquisition of a player that would grade higher in their unique system and usage or that might fill a void.

But, that touches on hidden weighted considerations we are not privy to. Which is why the controversy over various individual performance grades from specific publishers will continue. Much like the controversy over variations in officiating will continue unabated in a league of constantly changing rules and points of emphasis.

So as we continue the journey of 2019, we'll see how this specific trade plays out. bon a petite

............................................................................................

Note: While Diggs 2020 and 2021 numbers are not guaranteed, his 2019 number is guaranteed.

I can see him play both S and CB.

Diggs is listed at 5-9 197 and has experience playing both positions. In the preseason, Pete played Ugo Amadi at FS and the slot and he’s listed at 5-9 201.

Could you see Diggs play Slot if McDougald and Blair are available to play? I underestimated how valuable Justin Coleman was to this defense. Pete has struggled finding his replacement. Hope he can replace Coleman since we didn’t have a capable slot corner on our roster.

I love the trade after watching some vids of him. He isnt an earl but know one is. Time will tell.

How did PFF earn any credibility? IMO they are as credible as Prisco or any other person out there trying to make a buck telling you their views . At least with Prisco he puts his name and record on his opinions. Hell he might be the wizard behind the curtain. I think too many people put weight on PFFs grades. Some guy in Bangledesh telling us how good someone is. Cmon

For me, finding an immediate replacement for Coleman would be a big pleasant surprise. Diggs speed and length (sub 30" arms) is limited. But he has the combined intelligence and instinct that Pete covets in a defensive back. He has also demonstrated the toughness and physicality that Pete demands from his defensive backs.

Diggs is certainly battle tested at both safety and nickle. His demonstrated field and locker room leadership invited the look at a multiyear commitment. There isn't a big learning curve in front of him. I would think we will see how Diggs fits in relatively quickly.

I'd be mildly surprised if TT is released during the season.

Much more likely that Hill or McDougald are moved to IR.

However I would be strongly surprised if TT isn't released before next season. This deal screams to me to be the follow up to the shot across the bow from a few weeks back.

It certainly won't be this season, we're already thin at DB and safety to just cut players.

But yes, if both Blair and Diggs work out and stay relatively healthy and productive the rest of this season, I'd expect one or both of Thompson and Hill to be cut next off season.

Pete's a very patient coach, as we've found out by him sticking by guys like Prosise......but one thing he's not is forgiving when it comes to the fundamentals. You don't have to make spectacular plays to play for Pete, but you do have to play fundamentally sound and do your job. Both Hill and Thompson seem to have a problem with just doing their job, which had led to some big plays that should have never happened.

John Schneider trades magic beans for Quentin Jammer's little brother who happens to be Lions team captain & pro bowl alternate, players & fans wearing Honolulu blue not happy. If we can stay healthy and gel late, this is the type of addition that could put us over the top into contention. Welcome to Seattle Quandre Diggs, the 12's are real glad to see you in the fold.

Maybe the Nickel back, seems smaller and to slow to be the FS that Pete wants and not sturdy enough to be SS.
