This may just be an indictment on the state of the safety position, but there HAS to be somebody better. I LOVE Earl. Don't get me wrong. I have a full-fledged man-crush. He's my favorite Seahawk. But he drops so many easy picks, misses some tackles, and could be so much better! Are we sure this isn't just about how good he looks and how fast he is, versus how productive he is? If he is already the best safety in the league (which I have read in numerous spots, not just here), think about how much better he could be than everybody else if he takes that next step which he seems to be capable of.

Are the rest of the safeties so mediocre that a guy who leaves so much on the table is considered the best of them all? There has to be somebody that capitalizes more on their talent, isn't there?

>Drops so many easy picks.

Oh lord please. he had 3 picks dropped last year and none of them were "EASY"

>misses some tackle

Name one defensive person who doesnt. Ill show you proof they do.

I swear, ever since PFF released a bad grade for ET, all of a sudden, these missed tackles and missed interceptions have been all they anybody talks about as if its common knowledge. No one ever mentioned it before because it was so stupid taken out of context.

ET is the best Safety hands down. He still gets great interceptions that completely change games (WAS, ATL). Amazing tackles (rewatch AD getting caught by ET behind the line). And covers more ground faster then any other defensive body out there.

Please stop, STOP, getting all your information from opinion pieces and top 10 list and watch some film yourself. I have watched almost every game by every team in 2012, and have rewatched every hawk game 4x's plus. Why, cause I love this game. I absolutely envelop into it. My wife cant stand my obsession with it. But its something that I have to work through.

Regardless, im ranting. Watch the film, make your own judgements. Watch the ALL-22 and watch ET on every play. He makes a mistake every once in awhile. But ive watch most teams and most of their games, and every single player in the NFL makes a mistake every once in awhile. ET is the best.

Here we go again. Do you think I have any idea what a PFF is? Of all of the analysis I have given here since I signed up, has ANY of it been linked to ANYTHING other than my own first-hand experience? Ever? Do I seem like a type that would need anybody to break down my analysis for me? If I cared enough to go back through tape, I would be more than happy to prove you wrong, again. Check your facts before you start talkin out your neck, again. Dropped 3 picks? In a game? How many times? Again?

I have no doubt he is the most talented safety in the league. I'm just thinking there has to be somebody who has been more opportunistic who has changed more games. Frankly, Earl hasn't had those game changing plays often, and he has had a good handful of chances to do it. If he's already the best, more power to him, because the distance between him and the next guy is only going to widen. But if we're comparing him to Ed Reed in his prime, it isn't even close. Not on the same planet. Maybe there isn't anybody close to that level right now, and Earl is the best thing out there. Maybe we got spoiled by recently watching some of the greatest safeties to ever live, and they've now fallen off. Earl Thomas is damn good, but he isn't that instant difference maker that he could and I believe will be. Maybe that player doesn't exist.

You picked the wrong tree to bark up, big boy.

Your obsession don't mean much if you don't have the instinct to make it worthwhile.

I guess PFT now thinks Adrian Wilson, formerly with the Cardinals and now with the Patriots, is now a slouch and no longer in the top half of the safties in the league. I always thought he was one of the top safeties. But, looking at his stats, he's fallen quite a bit from where he used to be.
