Howell has looked good this year, and better than prior, but still not great. I really like the advantage his legs provide, which is his lone advantage compared to Geno. I just cant shake the feeling Geno is an injury risk, so having a guy like Howell eases the angst.

It seems to me like Geno is "faster" when he decides to run, and takes off outside and up the sideline, but Howell is "fast enough" and is a more "rugged" runner inside if he needs to go through a DB to get a couple more yards for a first down, e.g. on a QB draw or Read-Option.
Does that seem like a fair take? I thought I saw Geno had actually the fastest top speed on the team during some offseason or minicamp drills, but I could be confusing that with Michael Penix Jr. who also is surprisingly ridiculously fast, like in the 4.4's or close to it for the 40.

Yes, and Howell also seems to do a pretty good job identifying yardage opportunities were he to run the ball himself in no-open-receiver situations, which as we've seen, he often does.

It would be very interesting to see if he picked it up playing alongside the starters. Probably won't know until next year at the earliest.

Howell would have fared very well if that TD had not been called back with the flag. I personally think he did outstanding and with a 2nd string...I think if he gelled with a 1st string unit...he could give Geno a run for his money.

You are either a poser or not well informed. You want to debate whether Howell can push Geno as a starter, that's a viable discussion. Not sold on Howell as our #2...

Geno had the advantage of working with Penix and Grubb at UW, he also had the playbook well ahead of Howell. He had a head start. Howell appears to taken to coaching well as far as decision making, he will gain confidence and more familiarity with the Wr's and timing. I am not worried about Howell, he looked good.

I've never been sold on Howell, I don't think he's that good and I stand by my statement. He can't push Geno because he doesn't have the talent to push Geno, that was well established early in training camp.

I'm not sure anything can change your mind if the actual all-time record season for most game-winning touchdown passes hasn't done it.
The bar to be considered clutch doesn't get any higher for a QB than "break the record for most 4th quarter go-ahead touchdown passes in a season," and he still cleared it.

I think he makes bad decisions and is very turnover prone, he's got talent but not enough for me to justify trading for him

Don't know if you ever literally said, "Geno sucks", it was between the lines, a "Yeah, but" for every word of praise for Geno.
Which is ironic because I was not sold on Geno a couple years ago, but IMO he's been an above-average starter, and his clutch-ness has been a pleasant surprise the last couple seasons. With a better Seahawks defense, maybe Geno won't feel he has to make so many turnover-worthy throws.

He's an above average QB. I'm happy he's under center. I just want more from him in the clutch. It IS ok to be cautiously optimistic and/or not be all in on a QB.
Howell is going to turn to be a decent pro. Another year of sitting, learning and practicing will do him wonders.
I think Howell passes the eyeball test for NFL average competent QB. But if he can really elevate his game then with his cannon arm and his active legs the sky is the limit.

Nice to see how much more careful Howell is being with the ball too. Clearly there has been a huge emphasis on his decisions. Coaching matters.

I don't think you can fairly judge Howell yet negatively as he hasn't been tested with a full season with an adequate 1st string Oline and current coaches. I think if you gave him this season, minus Geno, we all would be having quite the conversation of what Howell can do front and center. Howell's arm + DK's catch ability in the end zone or any of the other receivers.....scary good.
