The female voice is not a good fit for NFL announcers. It just doesn't work.
I have to respectfully disagree. It's not about the gender. If you don't like her, that's fine, but don't say women can't do the job. There's nothing inherently masculine about being an announcer. The female voice is not a good fit for NFL announcers. It just doesn't work.
I never said women can't do the job. I said the female voice is not a good fit. Doesn't have anything to do with masculinity. Raible is one of the best and has a less masculine sounding voice than many others.I have to respectfully disagree. It's not about the gender. I live in LA and I had to listen to the Chargers announcers, who were a lot worse.
What he saidAs a middle-aged man, I've been conditioned to hear male announcers. Female announcers don't have the same feel/tenor/tone to me but it has nothing to do with if I think they are capable of having the ability to be an announcer or not. I am as equal opportunity as you will find. But it's perfectly okay to have your own preference without having to feel like your equality paradigm is being questioned. This PC/Cancel Culture we live in has completely made everyone feel afraid to say anything anymore without fear of some objection by the overly sensitives that permeate our society today.
Meh. Ya don't like a woman announcer? Own it! It's a preference thing, not a "women can't do the same thing a man can" thing.
Lots of voices aren’t great fits. Not many Keith Jackson’s RIP anymore. The female voice is not a good fit for NFL announcers. It just doesn't work.
I get that. Football for me is a comfort thing too, and nothing makes me feel more at home than Al Michael's voice. As a middle-aged man, I've been conditioned to hear male announcers. Yeah , if you speak your mind about not liking her doing the broadcast , you're a misogynist. That's what we've come to as a society. There are many male announcers I'm not fond of , but that's okay I guess .Absolutely ridiculous. Who cares if it's a male or female. Bad announcing is bad announcing.
when MRob said “Michael, who are you to criticize a d lineman for being offsides. You were offsides every play “.I think she's done great on the TV broadcast. I like Mike Rob also. Bennett is fun but I'm not sure even he knows what he's saying sometimes.
As a Rams fan i'd rather not have her on the commentating team. It's not that she's not capable or doesn't know her stuff. There's an 'I don't want to watch the Rams, I want to be somewhere else, I don't care' vibe to her. If there's a big play there's a 'yeah, whatever' feel to the background information she provides.I get that. Football for me is a comfort thing too, and nothing makes me feel more at home than Al Michael's voice.
But--and this has nothing to do with being PC--I think that if we are open to different things, we might find that something we think we don't like is okay after all.
I'm not saying that there is a female Al Michaels out there, but one day, there could be.
On a related note, Mina Kimes is doing the Rams preseason games again. Even though I live in LA, I have yet to watch a Rams preseason game so I can't tell you what she's like a an in-game broadcaster. But I believe she's doing the color, not the play-by-play.
