So, just exactly what do the guys on the PS do, anyway? Just practice and work out? Do they practice with the team, or only amongst themselves?

They take reps and work with the team, just are not on the 53 man, call them guys in the wings when there is a need on the 53 to bring in people in positions that know the system if needed as well as develop. They are also handy to have to give guys rest and to take reps in practice so the team isn't short players.

What are practice squad players paid?

What, if anything, is an opposing team who poaches a practice squad player obligated to do besides officially place that player on their 53-man roster?

(Pretend Google is broken, I like asking real people sometimes.)

They have a minimum salary I think is around 100,000 I seen 67,000 a few years ago it's a week by week thing, unless they have a special situation or contract that enticed them to sign here.

The minimum ps salary is $8000/game. There is no maximum so if a team wants to try to protect a player from being poached they can pay them whatever they like. PS salaries count towards the salary cap so teams are careful not to overpay.

I did say week to week and what I had seen was a few years back and I was averaging.

Their primary role is to mimic and scout the scheme of that week’s opponent in practice. It is not necessarily a development program.

Another team can sign another teams’ practice squad player to their 53 man active roster, and that player must remain on the active roster for a minimum of 3 weeks. Players can not be signed directly from one teams’ practice squad to another practice squad. To do so, they must be released from the initial practice squad.

If it's the PS's own team that calls the player up to the 53, is that team also bound by the 3-week minimum requirement?

Short answer: yes. Let me clarify, they are owed the equivalent of minimum base salary pay for 3 weeks. While they do t literally need to be on the roster, they must carry the financial burden of being on the roster.

There are also special rules about signing players off the ps of your next scheduled opponent.
