PFF Position Group Rankings Going Into Week 16

In an effort to milk as much out of my PFF subscription as possible, I have put together some team rankings by position group. This one didn't take as long as the player rankings. Hopefully it's a good discussion topic. Let's see if they meet the eye test:

PFF Team Grades Ranking

Offense

Points For: 5th. Top Ranked: Lions
Passing: 3rd. Top ranked: Rams
Pass Blocking: 20th. Top Ranked: Broncos
Receiving: 2nd. Top Ranked: Rams
Rushing: 2nd. Top Ranked: Chargers
Run Blocking: 18th. Top Ranked: Rams.

Defense

Points Against: 2nd. Top Ranked: Texans
Run Defense: 7th. Top Ranked: Rams
Tackling: 25th. Top Ranked: Packers
Pass Rush: 10th. Top Ranked: Browns
Coverage: 2nd. Top Ranked: Rams.

Overall Offense: 2nd. Top Ranked: Rams

Overall Defense: 4th. Top Ranked: Rams

Special Teams: 3rd. Top Ranked: Vikings

Overall Team: 2nd. Top Ranked: Rams

As in the player grades, I'm not necessarily attaching any kind of accuracy or legitimacy to them. The Rams sure get a lot of love.

I wonder if the Rams get love because they are, indeed, a very well-rounded, solid team?

I'm not convinced by the Rushing numbers, regardless of it's relationship to the O-Line pass-blocking efficiency.

I think the assessment of the Rams being the strongest team is accurate, too. And like you, I'm a bit confused as to why our running backs are ranked so well while our OL run blocking is ranked so poorly. Backs don't get to show their stuff unless they have a hole to run through.
