"The NFL currently has rules to regulate crowd noises"

Hahahah no it doesn't, the NFL dropped it. What an ignorant tool.

.....yep
Thank God the NFL wants the exact opposite. They want the experience at the stadiums to be unique (and crowd noise at the Clink is part of what makes that stadium unique) given anybody can stay home and get a better viewing experience via their high definition TV's.

Every other fan in the nation is always posting about how they wish their stadiums could be as loud. Even LeBron wants to get in on the action!

I absolutely agree with this! The crowd really makes it difficult for me to do my job. Much prefer playing in St. Louis or Arizona.

I support this. I am okay with our fans stabbing one another, but will not stand for another team's fans standing and cheering. It's an abomination.

It's pretty funny. First it was an old lady, now it's probably some metrosexual with a sore mangina.

KC is loud as hell. We should also ban all teams from playing in a dome. It not only reflects noise, but artificially enhances the environment giving fast finesse teams like the Saints too much of an advantage. :sarcasm_off:

It's a proven that the architect that built our stadium has been approached by multiple NFL franchises that want to replicate our stadium. Thing is, you need loud and passionate fan bases to get it done. We have a tradition for noise that goes back to the Kingdome.

Thing is, everyone wants to be us. Not many can. Now we're going to start to be hated. Remember how the Patriots were a good story at first, then they got hated once they won a lot ? Here we go.

It was interesting that they did the piece before the game on how the saints had these special noise cancelling custom fit ear plugs made especially for this game. These were supposedly made to filter out the crowd noise and allow communication in the huddle and at the line of scrimmage. They talked about how they received them on Friday just in time to test them out and get used to them and showed pictures of a few of the players wearing them.

Then at half time when the side line reporter commented to Payton about dealing with the crowd noise he said it wasn't a factor.

Funny then after the game, in the press conferences it was all about the crowd noise being a major factor...

It's not really a rule if they don't enforce it though (may as well be given a vacation from the books) and good luck ever getting the NFL to enforce it with any semblance of consistency. They know they'll lose money if they start turning it into MLB atmosphere; people don't go to football games at any level to sit on their hands and be quiet -- especially with the prices these days between the tickets, the concessions and the parking. They're already on thin ice with how much the game is being changed to favor the offense and hinder the defense from making anything resembling a physical play.

Like John Lennon says in the MNF intro, "It's an amazing event and sight, it makes rock concerts look like tea parties."

I'm not sure how many of you remember, but back in the 90s, they used to call 5-yard delay of game penalties to the home team for excessive crowd noise.
One of the biggest reasons I despise Horseface Elway. He used to whine endlessly to the refs about the crowd in the Kingdome. He was a gigantic pussy just like Whiner fans.

This guy needs to do his homework.

There is no noise rule anymore.

Yes, there is still a noise rule, and the author correctly points out that the league does not enforce it.

Read this article again. It states that the league now allows PA announcers and big screens to incite the fans into making more noise.

The only noise rule enforced is the artificial noise rule, which prohibits stadiums from pumping in artificial crowd noise. Which we know well, because other teams keep saying that's why we're so loud.

Here:

When, in the judgment of the Referee, the level of crowd noise prevents the offense from hearing its signals, he can institute a series of procedures which can result in a loss of team time outs or a five-yard penalty against the defensive team.
