I can already tell you guys what happened in this entire Harvin situation.
Harvin is injury prone and pain sensitive. He had a real injury, got surgery and rehab. Physically the guy was fine. But he was too scared or in too much pain for him to play. 100% the guy got the all clear from the doctors and the team. Otherwise he wouldn't be out there now. The Dr's gave him the all clear before the Minni game. After that, you can tell that this entire not playing thing was up to Percy.
Remember how many games and or practice did this guy miss due to headaches? Anyway, physically he was all clear but mentally the guy didn't want to be out there. Some faint feeling of soreness. Pete didn't want to throw him under the bus but didn't want to flat out lie. So for 4-5 weeks the mystery of "what's wrong with Harvin" without a peep from Pete. Obviously he didnt want to throw Percy under the bus, but couldn't say anything else --unless he flat out lied. The truth was that Harvin was physically ok but mentally he didn't want to play. So it came down to Pete finally saying enough is enough. If you can't play, we're going to put you on IR. Percy saw that he had to make a choice --either play or go on IR. He decided to play or at least give it a shot.
It's absolutely the only thing that makes sense. Is Harvin a bitch because of this? Maybe or maybe not. I wouldn't say so. Mentally he just didn't feel comfortable. But I think this makes the most sense. BTW, this is all just an educated guess.
I agree.
When Pete was on the radio Monday morning, he said the issue for Harvin was a "personal struggle." Later that afternoon, he said Percy would practice. I don't think Pete was trolling the media. There was nothing to be gained in those four hours. It was simply do or die time for Percy. Pete alluded to that today when he said they were running out of time and Percy decided to push himself through. I think Percy's struggles with pain are probably real and more heightened than other athletes. For that, I admire him for getting out there. There was no conspiracy. No gamesmanship. Percy was just faced with the ultimate decision: play now or sit for the rest of the season. I'm glad he chose to play, as he is one of the most dynamic receivers and RETURNERS in the game. I've never doubted his skill or his competiveness on game day.
Reasonable conclusions. May be petty on my part and it may simply be coincidence but I find it suspect that he was able to play against his old team and nobody else. That is the thing that does bother me (
if what you guys are hypothesizing is accurate)... Percy making himself available when the game carries some meaning for him but not when we're facing a 1st vs 5th seed situation.
I have not much to add but a column in USA Today in July. "The Seahawks were a good team without Harvin. And they should be good without him, despite the explosive talent that made Seattle look past his issues and pursue Harvin in the first place".
He is a distraction. He has NOTHING to do with the tremendous season I have seen the Hawks play w/o him. Yes, the Hawks could use a receiver with some experience due to Wilson's extension of plays. I think it would do a dis service to the receivers, Tate, Kearse, Baldwin, and Miller (sorry Luke but you are out) to bring in someone who appeared in practice sporadically during the season and now when they are in the playoffs.
That is a distraction. Seattle teams have been burned before with injury prone players and the original move was suspect to bring him here. Unless he has been doing something to bring up the players off the field that we haven't heard about, let him go back to wherever he has been the last 5 months.
These next games are playoff games for the team that made the playoffs. It should not be "They have Harvin back, now they are deadly".
