His playing time today might be an indication of how close they are on a trade.

The original link is a random CNN article

I hope they don’t trade him to an NFC team. If he goes to a team that can use him, like the Saints or Eagles and lights it up, I’ll be sick. The kid has crazy breakaway speed and cutting ability. He isn’t being used properly and to some that means trade him but to me that means figure it out. He could easily have a run against us similar to what he did to the Steelers

I just have little confidence this player will ever show us he can be the bell cow RB. His vision seems poor and he is not apparently capable running inside.

Given his 1 1/2 years of demonstrated limited ability the team isn't going to get much for him.

You say he's poorly used? I don't know he seems more like a player who can't do what the team wants him to do, which is to dependably get short yardage and run effectively between the tackles. He seems to be a limited use talent, restricted to running outside. To me it would appear he has been passed by Prosise on the DC. Possibly b/b he has shown some inability to remain healthy, possibly b/c he just can't effectively do what he 's asked to do.

Rumours of this trade don't surprise me.

Wonder what they get for him? Might be included in a trade for a tight end?

I was thinking that earlier. What would they need to get for him to make it worth it? What would other teams be willing to trade.

Vannett netted a 5th, right? I would think they'd want more than that for Penny but I don't know that they would get it.

In other news, Prosise is inactive this week. Certainly curious.

Do you trust CJ Prosise that much as a backup? He’s inactive, once again, today.

Sometimes the best move is the one you DON’T make. I know he hasn’t made as big of an impact as expected, but we’re one play away from him being our featured back.

Unless we get an offer we absolutely, positively cannot refuse, I’m not dealing him.

It will be an interesting 48 hours. I think they will have to have a sweet offer to trade him, we have the leverage. His rookie contract will be attractive. I dont think we roll w CJ as #2 either. I think Penny goes for Howard. Rumor was that Howard was #1 on their board. I think the hawks will be aggressive to get the guy they think so highly of if rumor is true

Just don't see them trading him and trusting Prosise as there number 2 but if they can swing OJ Howard for Penny i'd be fine with that. Fills a need for both teams.

If he plays at all, there probably isn’t a trade going on. If he doesn’t play, he’s probably gone.

All eight offensive linemen are active for this game which throws a spotlight on that 6th lineman. IIRC, this will be the first game in which all 5 starters they had envisioned for this year will have an opportunity to play together in a game.

Looking forward to a statement from the running game. :2thumbs:

Bills, Bucs, Falcons, Eagles all are said to be looking for a RB.

Possibilities: TE Dawson Knox, TE Dallas Goedert, OL Halapoulivaati Vaitai (apparently being dangled), NCB Sidney Jones (maybe PC sees something there to be the next Coleman) and obviously Howard/Hooper/Brate.

He could get a lot of playing time and still be traded tomorrow. In fact, the better he plays the higher the price.

He is poorly used. Fans love narratives. For example, fans loved the narrative of Russ only being successful because of LOB, when Russ won a few shoot outs during those LOB days. And bailed them out. Or played well when Lynch was out. Perception skews our reality however.

Fans love the narrative that Penny can't read and run between the tackles even though he's shown he can. And even though Carson gets stuffed several times a game as well. Carson and Penny can have the exact same stats, but people are biased enough to focus on Penny's struggles. In truth, to shake the perception Penny has to have a 200 yard, all star performance. Other than that people will ignore his steady production.

I don't see how anyone can watch all of his carries and 100% conclude he's not a really good player. His runs against the Steelers, 49ers last year, Rams, Packers last year, etc. are eye popping. He has breakaway speed that Carson will never have. Penny can break off a 50 yard run, and pick up 3-4 yards in between. Carson can't. He also has great hands, so it's Carroll and Schotty's complete failure for not knowing how to use him.

Trading Penny only makes sense if they are trying to make room for a bigger move. They’re not going to get comparable value for him, CJ is in the final year of his deal and Carson is heading into the final year of his deal which makes Penny and his contract more valuable to Seattle. So, either the front office has been lying about how they feel about Penny, or they need to move him to help facilitate a trade for a comparable player at a bigger position of need.

is there any way they could be looking at a potential te, wr and/or fs/ss and rather than cut and hope to stash another player offer penny up and see if they can do a swap for one of those positions?

THAT's what made me sick. I thought "no way we get him" the whole time leading up to the draft and then I started to have hope a couple picks before us.

Rather keep him for depth. Our run game is too important to this offense and you never know when injuries will strike.
