It's hard to judge Penix. He was constantly throwing from an utterly clean pocket, and was sacked maybe 5 times all year. It makes him hard to evaluate. There's so little adversity response to track, you know? That highlight video is a great representation of that. He was barely moved off of his spot in all of those plays with deep/slow-developing routes.

If your reason for passing on Will Levis or Anthony Richardson is Penix, Jr. . . . erm, no. Nope. Nyet. No. Nope.

If you really believe in your ability to develop players (and the Hawks seem to), draft the guy with the makeup to be a superstar. Not the guy that had the tidiest completion percentage when throwing from a clean pocket against a conference with very weak defenses.

Agree with your take on Penix. For me it’s more about Penix hitting the 1st read and not going to 2nd and 3rd options, and playing in a wide open system which makes it more difficult to project. I have the same thoughts with Hooker, is he a system QB?

Totally. Even moreso with Hooker. It seems like Hooker knows exactly where that ball is going before the snap the vast majority of the time.
