I was shocked when no flag was thrown last light when (I can't remember if it was Tate) our receiver was being defended and their legs became tangled preventing a reception.

So according to the rules...

http://www.nfl.com/rulebook/passinterference

Actions that constitute defensive pass interference include but are not limited to:
(b) Inadvertent tangling of feet when both players are playing the ball or neither player
is playing the ball.

:hmmmm:

That line item is actually listed under "Actions that do not constitute pass interference include but are not limited to: "

But either way, it looked like a bad no-call. Not convinced because they didn't replay it much or from a good angle (and Rice does flop from time to time), but it looked like Rice was pushed.

Soccer players would have been proud of Rice on that play.

I understand the rule, feet getting inadvertently tangled, but when the receiver is breaking open and has a couple of steps on the defender, and the defender manages to kick his feet from behind to save the TD.... same as just tackling him and grabbing a fist full of jersey right?

I don't think it was inadvertent at all.

This is pretty much how I felt when I watched it live. He did look back for the ball, then he looked to Rice and saw that he was beat and suddenly his feet got "tangled". But hey, if you can get away with it why not? The only risk is a PI which in that circumstance is better than a TD.

Yeah, you pretty much have this one backwards. That is not pass interference.

Well, the thing that I was upset about was the hold by the DB on the double move. It should've been called and I felt like it was rather obvious.

1) I would have called the PI a few steps before that Honey Badger was ALL OVER Rice and impeded him then followed up with the tangling of feet which I correctly thought was a no-call even though that rule could really be misused

Seahawks had a play later that I want to say led to a turnover. The defender never turned his head, played the arms based on action by the receiver and I believe that led to one of the interceptions

So in my mind we came out even

found that Arians agreed with me :D

"It’s the reasons for the interceptions. Is it his decision-making? The first one to me was obvious pass interference"

Didn't Sherman also tangle his feat during the preseason and get a PI? It's the inconsistency in the officiating that upsets me.

There should have already been a flag for illegal contact. He grabbed Rice well after 5 yards.

Danny O'Neill brought up a point that intrigued me. We don't want the ticky-tack stuff called on our guys, so it's beneficial if they let a little bit go on our receivers.

All bets are apparently off when the team that is losing by 2 scores has the ball in the 4th, though...

PI is the one penalty with the most variance in how it's called, and since it's a spot of the foul in yardage penalty, it can really be a field position and game changer,....I kind of like the college rule of 15yards and automatic first down better,...maybe the NFL figures the saavy DBs in the league would commit too many intentional fouls when they are beat on deep passes if it's only a 15 yard penalty

I thought the call on Sherman was a bad call, but in retrospect, Sherman has made a career out of illegal contact, and he is going to get karma calls now and then.

And the thing about Shermans play is that no one ever uses that to say he isn't as good as he is. They understand that its part of his game and he excels at it.

That blatant PI by Earl though was never called either. It does go both ways sometimes, but I agree, I just want consistency.
